I did a "contact us" earlier today from their website
Only 2 options - phone or chat - no email or web form

So I did a chat with someone and complained about this actual issue

They said it is "store manager" policy to require ID/DOB (I explained that I am well above the age of requirement- obvious to anyone.

I told her that the store manager (whom I did talk to) said that it was Company Policy -

I asked this chat person to file an "official complaint" and noted that the other stores do not require it and I would no longer buy ammo at Academy until this is changed

I suggest everyone on here do the same

Why would I contact academy about a birthdate? It's not like they asked your name or anything. IMHO this is blown out of proportion. A birthdate with no other information is nothing.

:iagree: just give a date. Doesn't have to be real.

I won't give out my phone number or email but I will give a DOB. OP seems to be "that guy" who is so overly protective that boarderlines on ridiculousness. Just give them a fake DOB if it's that big of a deal to you.

I suspect that this is one boycott that isn't going anywhere.

Zip = 90210 (most of the younger checkers have no idea, the older ones give an approving smirk and just put in the stores zip)
Phone = 911 (usually get a laugh and they put in n/a)
DOB = July 4 1960 (it is someone's DOB)

I get my purchase and they get to fill in the blanks. Life is good.

I'm not boycotting academy
Just buying ammo there
Whether it goes somewhere or not, it's just like not shopping at 30.06 locations, I will go somewhere else for those occasions

Funny.... the last time I bought ammo at Academy, maybe 6 months ago when I picked up some .30-30 for my then-new Marlin, nobody asked me any of those kinds of questions. Maybe there are advantages to looking like tactical Santa?

I recently ordered ammo online (June 5) and nowhere was I asked or required to provide my BD or age. I purchased some .22 Mag and .22 LR since then in my local store (maybe a week and a half ago) ; no questions nor requirement to provide BD or ID, nada. I'm casually acquainted with a manager with Academy if I see him I'll inquire if it's some new requirement.

Just bought some .22LR at the new Field & Stream store in Austin.
I was asked if I was a US citizen or legal alien - that's all.
