Help w. recalling gun law enforcement initiative

#1

Post by RHenriksen »

I recall a story about a jurisdiction that was suffering with a lot of violent crime. The local and/or state authorities teamed up with Federal prosecutors, and worked together to ensure that a large portion (or all?) of the felonies committed with a firearm were prosecuted by the feds - which meant time in Federal prison, zero parole.

Crime in that area plummeted as a result of - gasp! - getting the criminals off the street for an extended period of time.

I will be attending a small round table discussion with representatives from several different neighborhoods with Congressman Ted Poe. He's interested in hearing of neighborhood issues he might be able to help with. This sort of local + federal cooperation is one thing I wanted to suggest, and would like to be able to point him to the specific example so he would have a blueprint to follow, could perhaps talk w. the people involved in that initiative to see what they learned from the experience, etc.

Can anyone recall the state/town/county where this was done?

TIA,
RNH

You are talking about Project Exile. Richmond, VA was the first city to do it, but others copied it.
It was championed by the NRA.

I don't know why it fell into disfavor, likely bleeding hearts.

Thanks! I have mixed feelings about Jeff Sessions, but this sort of thing would seem to be right up his alley.
