I think their quality control issues started somewhere around the time they stopped making the 1100's. I have a 870 that I bought in the late 80's as a teenager that has never given any problems. I've run a couple thousand shells through it. My dad had an 1100 that needed occasional home maintenance but his 1187 needed to be shipped back twice and his 700 had the trigger issues.
