Another pawn shop find

#1

Post by ml1209 »

Spotted this H&R model 686 at a pawn shop. It came with .22LR and .22 Mag cylinders as well as the original box. $140 out the door. Good deal? Are these decent guns? DA/SA trigger but single-action style case ejection rod.

Looks like this:

Unless H&R has gone seriously downhill (like many of the "lower cost" brands have), you probably will get your money's worth. My first handgun purchase, on a tight budget, in 1975 was a H&R 949, 9 shot .22 cal. It was really a reliable revolver and put several thousand rounds out the barrel. Unfortunately it was stolen in a house burglary in 1986 and not replaced. It definitely wasn't heirloom quality, but always did it's job around our rural home sites.

You did very well. H&R has a large following and their pistols are fetching more and more money as time passes. The Topper and Pardner and especially their Handi rifle series steadily increase in price. Your pistol looks to be in very good condition and is one of the more sought after models.

With both cylinders, I would pay that no problem.

Nice find. Congratulations. The H&R guns are decent guns. You did quite well. it will be a pretty good shooter. Towards the end the H&R guns were getting cheaper and maybe the quality wasn't as nice, but they still functioned well and worked OK.
