Ever Used Glow-On Paint To Brighten Iron Sights?
My little Ruger LC9S isn't a bullseye shooter I realize, but the 3 dot white sights it came with are pitiful.
So, I'm considering preppy them with a little drilling out of what's in there, then q-tip them with alcohol afterwards, let dry and start in with painting on the glow-on.
Anyone here ever do that with gun sights that simply weren't up to par?
Thanks!

That's one of those things that never made much sense to me.
A concealed pistol would not be exposed to much, if any, light. Even an openly carried pistol will probably have the front sight covered by the holster.
I would think white paint would be better for most situations.
I'm willing to be educated.

I've used nail polish on my front sight and it helps with faster target acquisition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... lMYzJpD4n8

Pawpaw,
Supposedly, this stuff brightens up the sight, so if one does have to aim, target acquisition is quicker.
Does it work well?
I don't know, but my eyes can barely see the sights as they exist on my little Ruger.

I have not tried it.
Abraham, it may help to remember that what doesn't work for one of us can be a blessing to someone else.
Besides, if it doesn't work you can always try something else.

I have used Bright Sights paint http://brightsights.com/ which helps in low light, but as mentioned, if you are talking about glow-in-the-dark paint, it would need to be exposed to light before it would illuminate.

You might be better off putting some XS Big Dot sights on it.

That was my final solution. I could not be more satisfied.Pawpaw wrote:You might be better off putting some XS Big Dot sights on it.

On a couple of my gun the tritium doesn't work anymore. So I have painted the old tritium circle red and the rest of the post white. I have tried other colors but that what just seems to make it real easy to pick up the front sight.

Thanks for all the responses.

My daughter has some bright orange nail polish. I put a dab of that on the front sight of something a year or so ago. It's not glow in the dark or anything, but it does help with sight acquisition when there's enough light.

Several years ago right after Halloween I noticed some bright orange fingernail polish in the bargain bin of Halloweeen stuff at Wally World. I picked it up and have been putting it onto front Sights ever since. Works great for me!
Re: Ever Used Glow-On Paint To Brighten Iron Sights?
I've used the bright colored nail polish to brighten a front sight, and it helped me. White seems to my aging eyes to be the least effective, green is much better, and red the best. Just for me personally.
