Grandson in from Basic

#1

Post by 5thGenTexan »

My 21 yo grandson came in from basic for a 30 day medical leave to heal a broken leg. We went test driving side arms at one of the local ranges. Had a great day of running about 1000 rounds of stale target ammo downrange through a number of different guns. including a couple of pistol caliber carbines. He proceeded to out shoot me on every one including my own carry guns. I took a couple of 9's, 40's and 38's.

Can't wait until he comes back over next week for a couple of days to hit the range again with him so he can buy a new toy for me to "watch" for him before he reports back to base and complete his basic and AIT school.

There's no good time for a broken leg, but would be especially frustrating in the middle of basic training. I imagine he will have to pick it up again with a whole different group of trainees. best wishes to him.

At least you had a great time at the range. Well done.

Ha yep broke it 3 weeks in, then they gave them 2 weeks off at Christmas. He flew back in was complaining about PT runs hurting they redid his xray and found fracture they missed. irritated that it will cause him to miss his AIT school start date unless he gets cleared for duty as soon as he gets back and wraps up pronto. He was going to have about 4 weeks between basic and school start up so he's got to get released the first week back. He's going to be doing night vision avionics systems repairs, best thing is after he's done I've got my own FLIR technician available.

Add another thank you to him for serving.
It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.

A pistol without a round chambered is an expensive paper weight.
