(Kimber) The Dreaded Call After Amazing Range Time

#1

Post by kayt00 »

My wife and I hit the range on Saturday and had a pretty good time. She had a couple firsts in the outing including shooting the 1911's and shooting my AR-1, she's a pretty good shot with the rifle by the way.
The call however has to do with one of my 1911's. After tearing them down for cleaning, they are my current carry guns I noticed that there was a crack that had formed on the bottom end of the slide where the guide rod bushing is. Im hoping I don't have the nightmare experiences that we all to often hear about.Image

Ahh... hate to hear that! Hope things go smoothly (as much as possible in this situation). A lot depends on the brand, and maybe age...

And ironic timing to have 45 posts!

I did not notice that woohoo :cheers2:
I think I've got a 50/50 shot at this going really well. If it goes great then I'll be sticking and defending my Kimbers, if not...well...I guess I'll be joining the haters and buy a Rock Island or Springfield.

So far customer support from Kimber has been spot on. I have my RMA number and UPS shipping label. We'll see how quickly they can get the issue resolved.

I had to deal with them once, and everything went smoothly. No complaints.

I cannot fault Kimber's customer service. Every time I've had to use them, they have been great. However, with both Kimbers I have sent to them, the issues (one of which is what you are experiencing) continued to happen. It has been my experience that with Kimber, if you get a good one, it's a REAL good one. However, if you get a bad one it's a real bad one. Some swear by them. I won't trust my life to one though.

This is what has always kept me from owning a Kimber. The way my luck would have it is I wouldn’t be the one who got the “REAL GOOD ONE” I’d get the one that cracks or can’t make it through a mag. My experience with 1911’s thus far has not been good. All of my friends I’ve shot of various brands have all worked flawlessly. The one that I owned ( a Ruger sr1911) was a flop and didn’t run well at all. I’m wanting to get another 1911 but I’m afraid I’ll experience bad things again. That’s why I carry Glocks and revolvers....

Kimber got my Ultra back to me in about 2 weeks and it's back to mechanically flawless again. Range time with zero malfunctions and I'm a happy camper again. :fire
