I believe that is standard with most life insurance policies.

I don't know I would call it "whitewashed", but I think many suicides are ruled accidental deaths so the surviving family members can avoid the stigma of suicide. It is also a means of denial.

Oh my! I did not realize this. I always thought the insurance would not pay if you killed yourself.

Since they never released the man's name, it is hard to track down any new information.
