Boy reaches inside dad's pocket and discharges a Kel-Tec

Full story here. Two year old boy and the dad is a deputy  .

Magish said his son “stuck his hand into his pocket looking for a snack and that the firearm had discharged,” Deputy J.R. Holmes wrote in the incident report. He had been carrying his personal .380-caliber Kel-Tec semiautomatic pistol inside the right front pocket of his pants, when it went off.

Another incident that illustrates the importance of using a proper holster.

Don't put snacks in your pocket. Fortunate it was not worse.

I wouldn't depend on a safety in that situation. Covering the trigger is probably the best thing.

No. 1. That two year old should have never stuck his hand in the pocket. I would not have allowed that behavior EVER.
N. 2. You should always carry a firearm in such a way to prevent such a problem from occurring. :mad5

Hmmm? We got rid of Mrs. Oldgringo's Kel-Tec because it was so hard for her, a really grown woman, to shoot.

Proper holster solves the problem - no need for a thumb safety.

From Kel-Tec's website (I assume it's a P-3AT):

The small grip size and light trigger pull make the P-3AT ideal for female shooters.

And small kids. I assume it's a DAO - what's the trigger pull in pounds?

trigger pull is 5 lbs, just like the glock's trigger pull.

The trigger pull on the first Keltec 9mm was very long and was much higher than 5lb. perhaps as much 10/12 lbs...

I had one and both my wife and I hated the trigger pull, so I sold it.

After reading the story, my question is: where did the bullet go?

"Neither the boy nor the three adults required medical treatment." ... "The restaurant floor wasn’t damaged, nor was any other property."

So the boy got a fragment in the foot, grandad got some fragments in the lower leg, the two ladies got fragments enough to make some welts and a minor cut, but no medical treatment for any of them beyond an on-site patch-up by the EMT. And neither the floor itself nor any other property is damaged. How's that even possible?

I don't know the numbers, but my P3AT trigger pull is MUCH more than my Glocks.

When in doubt
