What to do with unwanted brass (9mm)?

#1

Post by AggieMM »

I recently purchased a "box-o-brass" for my newly acquired hobby. After reading a bunch of articles, and talking with family and friends, I've got a pile of unwanted 9mm brass that I don't plan to use for reloading. Most of it is "Speer" and "S&B", but some of it is military marked, or odd stuff I don't recognize. What do you do with the unwanted stuff? I feel bad just putting it in the trash....

Scrap brass is something like a buck a pound. If you deposit it at a range, they will probably sell it for scrap (saving you the trouble).

Ryan,

How much do you have? If it is worth the side trip, we will take it off your hands, as we are coming down to PSC this weekend.

If I had spare brass, I would definitely try to find some other reloader to give it to.

If you wanna dump it, I'll pay shipping

Otherwise, best thing to do is bring it to a match and ask who reloads. Anyone who reloads will be happy to take it off your hands. Especially if they're reloading 9mm. People used to tell me that reloading 9mm was a waste of time.....guess who's laughing now?

Why did you decide to not reload 9mm? It's one of the easiest to do.

llwatson - Not sure if it is worth the extra drive, but here's a picture.

That's a 6qt box, about half full. Based upon what I started with and what I kept, I'd say that is about 800-900 rounds (rough estimate, not counted).

I don't mind shipping to anyone that wants it, just as long as you pay for shipping. The brass is "free".

[ NOTE - As a reminder, this is mostly Speer, S&B, and military brass. I kept WIN, FC, R+P to name a few.]

Hi Ryan:

Remember, I'm brand new to this and will be learning several steps behind you. I'll get my Dillon any day now and am setting up my bench this week.

I'll be getting my first Bucket 'O Brass 9mm pretty soon.

What have you heard that makes you filter out the brass you rejected?

Do you go through the whole batch and check each case?

Is it relatively easy to pick out "bad" cases?

Thanks,
Don P

Just got back from the holiday, so I'm catching up. I had no idea that it would become that popular.

To be fair, here's the order I see it.

llwatson - pass for now
age_ranger - pass for now
NEW TEX SHOOTER - SPF
Fourman

I looked at the shipping rates, and I can send it in one of those flat rate boxes for $8.95. I prefer Paypal. I will start PM'n the order above, please let me know if you are still interested.
