Monzilla Firefox v.3.5.2

#1

Post by joe817 »

I've just installed a new version of Firefox 3.5.2, and it appears to have taken away my "spell checker". Well not the kind of spell checker like on Word, but if a word is misspelled it is underlined with red dashes.

In the past if I highlighted that word, a pop up box would be brought up giving me suggested variations in spelling.

Now the misspelled word is underlined in red dashes, but NO pop up box giving me spelling variations appear.

Do I need to enable something to make that happen? I've not even played around with any settings in the new version or anything.

It works for me. Did you "right-click"?

I downloaded the 'latest and greatest' Firefox on Tuesday and my spell check (red liner) is still working. I did have a pushed update this morning from Mozilla, but I can't see much that changed.

Dunno why yours isn't working though.

Thanks everybody for the responses, but I tried all of those's before I made the thread.....

The problem was, I had to re-load the dictionary, which I hadn't done. Since the new version didn't have any point of reference to check, it came up blank.

It's all fixed though.

I've been using Firefox going on 10 years, more or less.....anywho since I was 14. In those 10 or so years I've used only 4 browser sessions that were IE.

In all my internet experience, only 1....yup only one malware hit me. It was the abcjmp.com redirect malware that I picked up browsing with Firefox last month. Bad piece of work. And I've browsed G-reated, PG and NSFW websites. Out of the 200+ websites I've visited in my lifetime that was the only failure.

Needless to say, I'm a strong advocate of using Firefox. But I say that with a caveat emptor. When using Firefox, be absolutely sure on what websites you are going to browse. Have exactly what you have in mind before typing the URL.

That's my $0.02 worth.

I assume you're talking about the old Netscape / Mozilla Suite / Seamonkey days? Firefox has only been around for 5 years or so and I've actually never met anyone who has used Seamonkey . How was it as a browser back then?
