Current on line renewal wait times - 3rd renewal - 59 days

#1

Post by JimmyD »

Does anyone know what current wait times are for on line renewals? This will be my third renewal. It's coming up on 3 weeks since I sent payment. Renewal status is currently showing fingerprints and background check under review and has been that way for a few weeks. The last time I did fingerprints was the old ink method so I'm just wondering if there might be a problem with that or if that's what the status normally shows until approval.

Thanks!

Did mine a month ago. Had it to me in one week. Unbelievably fast.

Thanks...so anywhere from a week to 2 months?

I called them because the website is showing "fingerprints and background check under review" and thought maybe there was an issue with my fingerprints. The lady told me that's what it will normally show until it's complete and to allow 45 days.

So, I'll just wait it out. Hopefully there won't be an issue with the fingerprints.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'm on day 46 now. I called yesterday, told them this is my 3rd renewal and asked if they had an ETA. They said they are doing background check and it could take 180 days. I thought they were supposed to finish renewals in 45 days? Nothing has changed with my background so I would think it should go through quicker each time you renew.

To OP, I can't comment on why yours is taking so long, but I renewed back in October and from the day I went online to mailbox was 14 business days. When I did a change of address, three years ago, it took exactly one week. My original application took 3 months, so who knows. :confused5

I'm right at six months out of my first renewal. Am curious as to what it entails. Do they require all of the same documents as the original license (like court disposition paperwork) to be resubmitted? How about the cost - are they retroactively applying the $40 cost or are they hitting you for $70 until 9/1?

Fee is $70. The lower cost ($40) doesn't take effect until 09/01/17 if I understand it correctly. I think all you have to do is fill out form on line and pay the fee. You don't have to re-submit anything.

Not sure why it's taking me so long, I'm past the 45 day mark, I thought they were supposed to have it done by now. The lady I spoke with said that they do full background check each time. Since I'm on my 3rd renewal, I thought it would go faster. I got one speeding ticket since my last renewal and took defensive driving for it. That's they only thing that's changed.

My initial concern was the fingerprints, I didn't want them to take 3 months or longer and then tell me my fingerprints (ink form) had to be re-done, that's why I called and asked for an ETA. She really couldn't tell me any more than what the website shows. In fact, I think that's all she did, just check the website and repeat the status that I'm already aware of.
