Should I wait to renew after new fees go into effect?

#1

Post by Starscream »

Received my renewal notification from DPS back in April. This will make my third.

It is my understanding that the new fees for TX LTC's won't go into effect until September 1st. My CHL expires in mid October, not a lot of wiggle room for turn around should I submit an online renewal on September 1st.

Current renewal fee is $70 and the new fee will be $40. I would love to save myself thirty bucks but don't think it's worth running the risk of my CHL expiring.

Based on current renewal times, should I just go ahead and pay the current (higher fee) to ensure that my license does not expire?

The question you should ask yourself....is $30 worth the time you would be unable to carry (not counting at home or in your vehicle)?

Based on the mathematical calculation I just did with 6 of my fingers, you would be cutting it very close, and that's assuming they only take 30 days to turn it around. I would just pay the current amount.

I think a lot of people are holding off. I paid the extra $30 and avoided the rush. Got mine back in a little over a week this month.

I'd go ahead and pay the 70$. What's going to happen is a lot of people are thinking the same thing that you are and they are going to wait until September 1st and submit. That's going to rush DPS and cause a delay most likely in getting your LTC back.

I appreciate the replies gentlemen.

I figured that if I waited that I would not get my new LTC back before my current CHL expires.

Hadn't thought of their being a rush once the new lower fees go into effect.

I'll just go ahead and submit my info/payment now to avoid and delay and especially expiration.

I renewed today. Mine expires in December 2017. only thing in my check list was that they would use the same info if posable. I submitted the bar code. Hope that is correct?
