Compilation of disqualifications in shooting sports

#1

Post by DanD »

In over 3 years competing in IDPA I have only seen 2 DQ's. One DQ was for breaking the 180 rule on a stage that had you riding a bicycle angled to the left so doing a reload while facing forward on the bike would cause you to break 180. The second DQ happened on a stage where you were seated on the ground with your pistol covered by a towel next to you. The competitor removed the towel and when they started to pick up the pistol it fired with the round hitting the ground a few feet in front of them.

Here is a video I came across on YouTube that is a compilation of DQ's. One of the DQ's shows a guy trying to grab his pistol staged on a table and the gun spins around on him when he tries to grab it. I've shot a few stages that had your pistol staged on a similar table so note to self, make sure to look at what I'm grabbing so the pistol does not spin around.

Given a 50/50 chance, you will pick wrong 80% of the time. NRA Life Member, IDPA

Man, I've only been to three matches and shot in two, but some of that was really hard to watch!

I have been an SO for a little over 4 years and have had to DQ quite a few folks. Even had to DQ one at IDPA Nationals this year for a 180 violation.

I have been DQ'd for sending one over the berm during a reload at a USPSA match.

I have SOing for awhile now. Have had to DQ more than my share of competitors.
While not an SO at a match had a shooter retrieve his gun from his bag next to me. Stopped him and had SO come over.
Have had a person come to the line loaded already.
180 violations
Had a new shooter come to the line and start to load and make ready while people were still down range
Had a shooter at a 3 gun match have his belt fall down around his ankles and his pistol fall out.

Be safe out there

I have never shot competitively (unless you call shooting at guys who are shooting at you competition).
While some of those were pretty obvious, I have to admit that I am trying to figure out what the DQ was for in a few of them. Maybe bad camera angle or whatever.

Those competitions are easier to score.

I'm left with three reactions.......
  1. Oh man, some of those are really dumb.
  2. You know.....I can see how it could happen to me under pressure.
  3. Wait...... I want to LIVE! I should want to compete, exactly why?
