LADIES, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

My wife and I saw a news report last night, complete with video surveillance camera footage of a 19 girl being kidnaped in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Tyler, Texas where she worked. She apparently left work between 11:30 PM and midnight and the perp. can be seen on the video following far behind her, until she got to her truck at the far end of the parking lot. When she got to her truck door, the perp. took off running, pushed her into the truck and drove away. Her body was found sometime today and the perp. managed to get shot during a robbery attempt in Arizona. He's in custody.

There is a lot more to this story, like the perp. loitering around the parking lot for hours and even being approached by a security guard, before the girl was kidnaped. Why was a 19 year old girl walking alone late at night in a parking lot that far from her truck, without anyone walking with her? Was she required to park that far from the door to allow customers to use parking spaces closer to the door?

God, this just makes me sick!! Ladies, please, please be careful always, especially when walking by yourself in high risk areas, like parking lots and parking garages. Get your CHL, learn how to use a handgun for self-defense and practice! This may sound sexist, but I really don't care. Women/girls are far greater targets for predators than are we guys and I'm tired of seeing them murdered and their families destroyed by opportunistic thugs using such locations as hunting grounds. BTW, the girl’s mother rolled her car three times on the way to Tyler from their home in Henderson. I cannot begin to imagine how the parents feel.

Chas.

This is exactly what my talks at Montgomery College are about! Basic personal defense! It should be very alarming to women to know the most conservative numbers for personal crimes against women are "50% of all women will be attacked in their life time". Most research shows that number at 85%!

Ladies we really do need to become more aware of our surroundings and acknowledge the fact that we ARE targets. Once we accept that we are it is easier to take the next step of educating ourselves on our self-defense options.

I for one would like to put the ANIMALS that prey on women out of commission by making ourselves so dangerous that they either get killed when trying to attck us or they become too afraid to attack.

Charles, all,

A local talk show host briefly touched on a point talking about this tragedy last Friday. It got me to thinking over the weekend.

Where is it written in the US Bill of Rights, or the US Constitution that the Bill of Rights are age dependent?

Why is it that the 1st, and 3rd thru the 10th are available to all citizens regardless of age, yet the 2nd has an age restriction on it? Where in the Constitution or the 2nd Amendment is this?

I have heard all of the arguments, and I’m not buying them.

Reason being:
US Government:
Sec. 311. - Militia: composition and classes
(a)
The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32,
the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia

State of Texas:
TITLE 10. OCCUPATIONS RELATED TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SECURITY
CHAPTER 1702. PRIVATE SECURITY
SUBCHAPTER A. GENERAL PROVISIONS
§ 1702.163. QUALIFICATIONS FOR SECURITY[0] OFFICER COMMISSION.
(b) The commission may not issue a security[0] officer commission to an individual who:
(1) is younger than 18 years of age;

So we have 17 yrs. old for militia duty, 18 for military duty, 18 in Texas for a Commissioned Security Guard (I know, I know, to & from place of employment and while at work,) <BTDTGTTS>, and 18 to work in TDC and carry in public, while escorting inmates.

So if the idea of someone UNDER 21 even touching a handgun is not a foreign idea, why does someone have to be 21 to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights?

I'm proud to announce that CompVest and SRVA have responded to this issue and something is in the works. It's their project, so I won't say anymore.

There is not one single good thing about Megan Holden's death, but perhaps it can be a wake-up call and same some lives.

Thanks!

Regards,
Chas.

Courses for women.

At Thunder Gun Range north of Houston, I will be starting a handgun course for women. It will be offered monthly, cheap, encourage CHL particpation, promote gun safety, and encourage practice.

The first official class will be offered the fourth Saturday of April at 1PM. March 26th at 9AM I will run the class for the Montgomery College 2nd Amendment Academy. It will be open to all women. The cost is $30.00 for non college students.

Thunder Gun Range will post information on their website this week.

The link I have is down; they are changing web masters. I understand it's up on a temporary location, but I don't have the URL. Perhaps Steve will see this and post the information. It shouldn't be long before it's back up on it's old address of http://www.tts-idpa.com/

Our web page (tts-idpa.com) is down but should be back in service within the next couple of weeks. In the mean time, if you have questions about the Ladies Day event, please call (713) 503-1562 and either Donna or I will give you the information. Donna has a passion for getting women to take responsibility for their personal protection and has put a lot of time and effort into this event. I am very proud of her. She deserves our support on this.

Her first Ladies Day is scheduled for April 23 at 1:00 p.m. There will be about an hour of classroom followed by range time.

She got the initial idea for this when a local woman who was at home with her two children when a gentleman (?) tried to break in. Her husband was out of town. In this case the police arrived in time to do some good, but the woman realized she was lucky. She contacted Donna to do some prework with her prior to applying for her CCW. The recent kidnapping reinforced to Donna the need to go forward with this project.

Self defence/awareness type class???

"Comp", I'd send her up your way, but thats a loooonnggg way...

I mean I could show her a thing or two myself, but I think she'd take to a class like this without me much better...

I'll just continue to help "maintain" her vigilence...

Anything in the S.E. Harris Country area, possibly down as far as Texas City, and downtown Houston would be do-able...

Steve,
I'm not sure what level you are looking for, but Charles Cotton and I have a Ladies' session of the NRA Basic Pistol class this coming Saturday, 4/16 at PSC in Friendswood. Charles will be tied up at least part of the day with NRA meetings, but I have 2 other instructors who will assist. If you want more details send me a PM.

Also, we will schedule an NRA Personal Protection in the Home class later in the year, probably July or August.

Thanx,
TraCoun
