Houston: Make a false 911 call about open carry, go to jail.

Perhaps we need a procedure for reporting and documenting false 911 calls relating to OC. That could be useful during the next legislative session.

On the news last night, the Dallas Police said they are expecting a "flood" of calls about people with guns. They have instructed the 911 dispatchers to ask the caller questions like is the gun in a holster, does the person act intoxicated, are they acting hostile. Things like that. Unless there is good cause, they won't send an officer. It won't stop the callers that are trying to cause trouble but at least the DPD seems to have a common sense approach.

Let's wait and see how next week's postings read after y'all return to work, eh?
I remain expectant that once the 'new wears off' in a week or so, OC sightings in metro areas will be very rare.

As far as a "flood" of calls, I wish they would track and publicize how many 911 MWAG calls they actually receive. It would be interesting to see just how bad the "flood" is and how long till it subsides.

It will also make it easier to get convictions against people who make false reports. With DPD's policy, they will have to claim more than just "he had a gun!"doncb wrote:. . .It won't stop the callers that are trying to cause trouble but at least the DPD seems to have a common sense approach.

These people are so afraid, but I can already see a LEO showing up and a licensed holder that did nothing wrong end up getting killed because of one of these stupid people making a false 911 call.

It has always been illegal to make a false 911 report. This should not be handled any differently.

That is the case but since this law is new to texas, finding out what is legal or not after the fact doesn't prevent anything that happened on scene. False 911 call goes out, cop shows up, see's a mwag, and shoots him ( you may say this is far fetched but look at the news). Turns out later it was a swatting 911 call. Either way, that person is still no longer alive. I don't care what gets proven in court later if I'm not alive to see it.

I don't think a lot of them are actually afraid. Afraid is just cover for some.stingeragent wrote:These people are so afraid, but I can already see a LEO showing up and a licensed holder that did nothing wrong end up getting killed because of one of these stupid people making a false 911 call.

Sad to say, but I think that is the case for some. I just cannot understand the mentality of some of these kinds of people.

You are challenging a pillar of the liberal beliefs. Citizens CAN carry guns without becoming bloodthirsty and insane. They can ignore and pretend it is not happening when concealed. But open carry requires more than their accustomed suspension of reality.thatguyoverthere wrote:gljjt wrote:
