CHL Badge, whats the story behind the comments about it?

Post by OnTexasTime »

From time to time someone makes a comment about a CHL Badge. I normally take it to be a joke when talked about. Whats the background there? Was there a thread back along the way where someone thought they would get a badge to wear with their license?

It does not make sense to me that anyone would want a badge to go with a CHL. Did some state or someone come up with the idea that CHL holder should wear a badge?

There have been numerous posts about CHL badges. Do a search and you will see the subject comes up once in a while. There are numerous websites trying to sell CCW badges. The consensus is that they are a bad idea, i.e. the person is an LEO "poser" or "wannabe." In some states, the AG have issued statements that strongly suggest that people do not purchase or display badges. In this forum it has become an inside joke about "flashing a CHL badge."

More likely someone devised a scheme to separate gullible CHL holders from their money.

I think we should have a slew of official "Texas CHL Forum" CHL Badges made up to sell at the TSRA show.

We could make millions! What do y'all think? :evil2:

Why do I always have Treasure of the Sierra Madre flashbacks when this subject comes up?
Except for the times when it's Blazing Saddles flashbacks instead.

Thanks for the info, I guess I have just missed out on the ads for CHL Badge and see why the jokes are made.

My crayon and scissor skills I learned came in really handy for that project...

The topic is of course a laughing joke on this forum and on many others. It is the general consensus of License Holders that a badge is not necessary or desirable. In some States, I believe it is actually against the Law.

The original idea behind a CHL Badge was that if/when you were in a shooting situation and you were still shooting or otherwise active with the handgun when LEO's arrived, you could "Flash the Badge" and that would identify you as a "Good Guy" to the responding LEO's. You would then have less of a chance of being mistaken for one of the bad guys and being shot by responding Officers.
It sounded like a good idea at first, but it was always possible that you would be charged as impersonating a LEO later on. Just something else to add to the trouble you will go through for wasting that scum in the first place!

That being said, I have not read one report where a License Holder flashed a badge or where one was charged if they did. Florida may be a better test case as they have been in the License business far longer than Texas.

I actually have a CHL Badge! Yes.....I will admit it.......
But, I do not carry it.
It is only a Novelty Item that is in my Gun Safe.
Why.....????
Because I want it. Why not????

As a matter of fact, I do have a large supply of disposable income. I came about it quite unexpectedly after I divorced my wife! ;-)

Unfortunately, instead of sending any of it your way, I think I will keep buying whatever I want, when I want it. That means guns, ammo, cars, property and yes, even CHL Badges....... if I want. :smilelol5:

I have a CHL badge made out of a throwing star as to improve my ability to destroy evil. I would post a picture but it is top secret and I would have to use my trusty memory erasing pen on all who saw it. I do not want to go thru that again! :grumble
