Houston Metro poised to repeal unenforceable handgun ban

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Houston Metro Chairman announced today that the Board plans to repeal its ten year old ban on CHL's carrying handguns on busses, trains and on Metro property. He said they are forced to comply with State law passed in 2003, but wishes people would not carry handguns on Metro property and busses.

The Metro bus-ban has long been unenforceable; even AG Morales issued an AG opinion admitting the ban on busses was unenforceable, as motor vehicles are not “property subject to trespass laws. I suspect this change of heart has something to do with the lawsuit that was filed against Metro on this issue.

Whatever the reason or motive, it's good to see Metro amending their regulations, albeit 18 months late.

Regards,
Chas.

Great news! :D :D :D

Now let's see about forcing cities with 30.06 signs to take them down!

Great News!

I've never been on a Metro bus, but after hearing [the former Mayor]Brown's fear-mongering on the subject for so many years, it's a very satisfying victory.

Some of us have a TSRA-produced videotape with an interview with Jerry Patterson back when he was State Senator in 1996. In it he states that when Metro gets challenged in court, they would lose. They must have finally seen the writing on the wall. Good job Jerry & Co. :)
