Preregistered for my renewal in June, but didn't take requalification class till 3rd week in September. Sent my paperwork in same day. Didn't get my new plastic till a week before Christmas. Was unlicensed for over two months. Will not wait to requalify next time.
Before God I swear this creed: my pistol and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Make sure you do your own background STATE WIDE FINGER PRINT CHECK this will cost you $24.95 for the " L 1 / Morpho Trust" check. You get results in one day as a walk in. THEN DO THE FBI RECORD CHECK this really takes a while as you have to get ROLLED FINGER PRINTS , Fill out Forms CORRECTLY and this took about 3 weeks for results (you can thank the criminals for your delay) , but it is far more revealing for a National Check. However if you have never been arrested then you are good to go. Just remember that if you have ever been arrested (its in the system) even though the case (s) may have been dismissed, set aside etc. then you will need to get MANY certified copies of the "FINAL (S)" COURT ORDERED DOCUMENTS. Contact which ever state you were in when convicted and have them updated Your File and then Ask if they can contact the FBI to update their File on You. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING until you see the results yourself.
Once you are satisfied then either, Hand Deliver Your CHL Packet and or Mail it. Just Remember if you do not have your file updated and send in your CHL packet there will be delays and you will have to do anyway what I mentioned before. Best of Luck

I mailed my renewal 12/30/12 certified mail. USPS tracking says is should have been delievered to Austin on or around 01/03/13. USPS has no idea where my certified letter is. I have gone round and round with calling them and emailing them. The same jerk from my local post office calls and says the problem is out of his hand because it left thier their location. He refuses to do anything else. So, I send and email to DPS and scan in and attach my renewal forms. I wait a week and call them on 01/18/13/ They say they got them today?? USPS tracking still says nothing and so does my good friend at the USPS. So, I am not sure it they got my certified letter or took the scans. I received my renewed CHL yesterday 02/04/13. So, processing was right around 34 days.
Not sure what I can do about my "certified" letter. Can I get a refund since they can't show proof they ever delivered it?? How are you suppose to send it if certified mail sucks?

So how long are people waiting for Finger Prints?. I could have done it in two weeks if I could have taken time off work and driven across town. Wound having to make an appointment in three weeks.
