Great! I haven't gone in years, and the wife is wanting to give it a try this year. Now I feel much more comfortable. Sort of like an enhanced Wally Walk. All kinds of fried stuff, long walks, crowds, gut jiggling rides, heat, bathrooms.....does that cover all the bases?

Did I hear correctly that this year someone is selling fried butter? :confused5

On a different thread I read where someone said you show your CHL to the LEO, and he lets you go around. Legal guns were said to be OK, they were just looking for the illegal carry. I hope someone will confirm, as it can be a long walk back to the car to leave.......

CHL/LEO has confirmed it in the past. As an LEO who works the fair, he would know for sure.

If I remember correctly there was a news story about the Tx State Fair inviting CHLers. Just be sure to wave down the nearest officer, obviously before hitting the metal detectors. They will be discrete about it and move you on in through a special place avoiding all the metal detectors.

I have been to the state fair many times with my CHL. (I wouldn't go there without it!) Just walk up to the LEO at the metal detector and show your CHL, follow directions, and be on your way.

One thing I noticed in the links CLTX11 posted(thanks!) that concerned me was no pocket knives allowed?? Really? When was that put in place?? Granted I haven't been in years, but all my life I've always carried a pocket knife with me to the State Fair....since about 5th grade. Of course the last time I went, there were no metal detectors at the entrances.

If a CHL holder who's carrying and is also carrying a pocket knife, will they be admitted to the fair grounds?

I was wondering the same thing, would be funny if they won't allow a knife but you can carry a handgun if licensed. :headscratch

I was there 2 years ago, and they didn't make a big deal about my pocket knife.
