Lawyer Reference
I was just thinking it might be handy to have a relationship with a lawyer (name/number/maybe initial contact) BEFORE I have need for one... ie, before I have to defend myself using my carry weapon, should it ever come to that. Does anyone know of a good CHL defense lawyer in the greater Austin area?

First things first:
Hi MrsChemist45, and welcome to the forum!
To answer your question: no, sorry I do not know of an Austin attorney, but maybe someone else does.
However the second reason I am replying (besides the welcome) is that I suspect that if you are thinking along these lines, then some other questions will start occurring to you, questions that have been discussed here before. Thus you may find something of interest in the following two threads, which are themselves lists of threads that deal with "after the defensive shooting" issues:
FAQ: Lawyers, Pre-paid Legal, CHL Insurance
FAQ: What do I do or say after defending myself?
That isn't to say you can't ask your own questions -- fire away! But you may find food for thought (or maybe even an attorney) in one of the above threads.
Good luck.

Re: Lawyer Reference
Hi ELB, and thanks for the welcome.
Thanks for the links. It's nice to have the ideas readily accessible (yes, I'm sure I could find them myself, but I suffer from the common human frailty of being lazy and like the hand-feeding
).
I've actually been a CHL holder (here and in other states) since... goodness, 1997 or so (has it really been that long? wow)... although I've really only gotten more consistent about carrying in the last four or five years. As I've gotten more consistent in my carrying, I've also thought more about the potential repercussions, so I've been reading and learning more about "what to do/not to do". Then reading some other posts on this forum I got thinking about getting a lawyer so if I am ever in the position, I could say, "I'll talk to you after I've talked to my lawyer" and actually have an idea who I was going to call.
So yes, I am definitely still interested in if anyone has a good attorney reference in the area (and I can start with not specifically CHL/2nd Amendment related). But in the meantime, now I have some more surfing/reading to do.
