Sorry if this is the wrong subforum but there are a lot of subforums!
I have recently decided that I want to purchase my first firearm and get my CHL as well. I've been reading the eligibility and requirements needed but I am confused on one thing.
In 2007 I was charged and convicted of a Class A misdemeanor for 'ASSAULT CAUSES BODILY INJURY FAMILY VIOLENCE'
This was 10 years ago. Am I eligible to purchase a firearm and obtain my CHL in Texas? I read on one site that as long as it was five years ago I should be fine, but on another site it says no I am not eligible if it was domestic violence.
Just trying to get some clarification.
Class A Misdemeanor - Am I Eligible for CHL?

No, you would be permanently disqualified for an LTC. Had you assaulted a stranger, you'd be ok.. but, because it's family violence you're disqualified for life.

Were you convicted or given deferred? If convicted, then it's a permanent ban because it's domestic violence.

You could try to get it pardoned or expunged. That seems to be the only way to get the prohibition removed.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

As stated in regard to the LTC. You also asked about purchase. Under Texas Law you had a 5 year ban on ownership, with under Federal Law a permanent ban on ownership.
