Today is exactly six months before the expiration of my CHL. I thought I can renew anytime within six months of the expiration. When I logged into the DPS website, there was no link to start a renewal application. Is this a paper process?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Renewal Question
I'd hang in there a week or so.... I'd be surprised if you don't receive a renewal reminder by 1-January.
Once you have the reminder letter, you should be able to log in and renew. At least that was the rough timing for me when I renewed about 18 months ago. Took about 5 weeks to get my new card, but, I still had 3.5 months on my old card so I wasn't in any rush...
DPS really does a bang-up job on this process...
Be patient for a week or so.. IMO.

Re: Renewal Question
You can do it online, it's just probably not quite open yet.
This is where you're logging in as a returning user, correct?
https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/ltc/
It took about 10 days to receive my new license and I had exactly zero days of grace left, I received the new one on my birthday.
As long as they can reuse your prints, photo and there are no significant changes to your background you should be OK. Their turnaround times for renewals are pretty fast these days.
