Detroit Defense by Grandfather

This video is posted in the Iowagunowners Facebook page. A search of the Detroit news did not turn out the original Detroit TV source. I also tried the Iowagunowners site. If you are not logged into Facebook you may not be able to see the video. If someone can find the original and post it, I'd be grateful.

This one interested me for several reasons.

1. In the TV interview, the 61 year old grandfather admitted that he was new to guns until he got his CPL. He apparently had no training.
2. He was OC in a convenience store when a 16yo thug tried to rob the CPL holder of his gun with the thug's own gun. After a brief attempt to talk the teen out of trying to take the CPL holder's gun, the CPL drew and fired again the teen's drawn gun, hitting him in the stomach. In the video, I was amazed at how the CPL shielded the sight of his gun from the teen as he drew and fired. For a beginner, it appeared to be very well done.

The best line in the interview from the CPL holder is "he wanted my gun so I gave it to him."

While I do agree training is important and worth the money. I also believe that you can defend yourself without it. There are techniques you can practice and drills you can run that give you a lot of the benefits of a class but without the cost.

I agree with you, he did an amazing job.

I thought another good line was " I shot him to save him"

There was nothing in the interview that suggested a level of practice but watching how he cleared the holster, I figured that he had done it more than a few times. Also, the way that he turned his gun away from the thug could have been practiced. Maybe he is just a guy with good instincts.
