I just now thought to go check the DPS site for LTC related numbers for 2017.

Numbers of licenses issued in 2017: 293,751. 72% to males, 28% to females.

Number of active licenses as of 31 December 2017: 1,244,944

Conviction tally for 2017 not available yet. I think it usually comes out in May.

For 2017 there were 2,640 non-texas-county license issued, or less than 1%.

I don’t see a break out like that for total licenses though.

Neat trick. I didn't think of that. The number of non-resident permits is a lot lower than I thought it'd be. So overall, one in 16.5-ish adults in Texas have an LTC. Not too bad... Could be better, though.

I really wish more women would get licensed and carry. I looked at some numbers about a year ago and IIRC they were down under 20% all through 2010 or later, but there's still much room for improvement. We should at least be able to get it to 60-40 instead of 72-28.

I don't know the numbers but if I were to guess I would guess that the LTCs would be close to the 60-40 number. I think its the inertia of us that keep the numbers lower. The number of CHLs from the early days were heavily slanted toward the males a female at the time was pretty rare. Another trend I have noticed is that the initial LTCers seen to be younger.

Like I said I haven't seen any numbers just observances from real life and this forum.

I sure hope it's closer to 60%-40%. I was just going by ELB's numbers of the licenses issued in 2017, 72% men 28% women. But I think you're right. It was heavily male in the first years, and I doubt many of those will let their license expire. They'll keep it until they aren't around to renew it any longer.

Just from my limited experience over the past 6 months, assisting with my employer's LTC classes, our turn out is much closer to 60-40 with many wives and girlfriends taking the class with their SO. During our last class in March, my wife, daughter, and SIL all took the class. There are also a lot of mothers, and daughters taking the classes together.
My personal gun sales, are almost 50/50 male to female, with a lot of couples, buying his and hers guns.

I would bet that the overall numbers are the other way, more like 90/10, with males being the 90%. I think women’s participation has been growing in the last few years and would not be surprised if the 28% is the high watermark to date.

With the dramatic reduction in cost, first-time fee for a license to carry drops from $140 to $40 and the renewal fee from $70 to $40, I would expect the numbers for 2018 to climb.

I think the 28% for all LTCs is probably pretty accurate and that the new LTC licenses might be close to 40% I am pretty sure that we haven't reached 40% for all CHL licensees. I'm just guessing though. I don't really know.
I think the cost reductions, better conceal options class time reductions, and NRA promotions have all contributed. When I got initial CHL it was pretty much 95% or better men. Mostly people over 40. They are getting younger too.
