Larry Vickers has some interesting commentary on the movie Sicario:

Interesting points by Vickers. Thanks for posting.

Like Vickers I remember reading elsewhere that the NVG scenes were filmed with actual NV cameras, not special effects, altho some "special effects" were used -- they heated up the guy's boots just before the scene so they would leave footprints on the floor of the tunnel.

I thought this was a really well-done action movie. In fact I liked it so much I have not watched the sequel because I'm afraid it won't/can't be as good as the first one.

One thing that really pumps up the tension in this movie is the sound track. Normally I don't notice the sound track, and most of them are really kind of blah and...dunno, predictable or formulaic ...but in this move it is a key part of giving a sense of tension and doom that really improves the movie. In fact the only other movie I can think of/remember where I noticed the sound track being a key part of the experience was Patton. (Well OK, I just remembered the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns -- soundtrack was key there too). Because the sound track is a big part of Sicario, I recommend that if you don't have a really good sound system for your house (or even if you do), watch the movie with some quality headphones. It really helps, and that series of scenes where they cross the border to pick up the prisoner is just amazing.

I didn't think the sequel was as good, but it wasn't bad either.

Larry has done several more movies.

I'm watching his commentary on Saving Private Ryan now:
