FILLING IN THE ENGRAVINGS.

#1

Post by smokindragon »

I have a Springfield xd 40 subcompact and found a way to color in the engravings.

They sell this stuff called "Rub 'n Buff" at MJ Designs .

All you do is dab it over the engravings and rub it in with your finger and wipe off the excess (I used Outers Gun Oil).

Here are a few pictures of it, Now sorry for the quality of the pictures, they were taken with my cell phone.

Now the pictures do not do any justice to the looks of it at all.

Anyhow, Just thought I would share that with y'all

This could be the best answer in my quest to find something to highlight the stampings on my military rifles when photographing. I've considered Lacquer Stick from Brownells, chalk, White-Out, wax pencils, and others.

The antique white should do nicely.

I used white crayon on my Glock. :biggrinjester:
Works, and lasts for a surprisingly long time. Easy to get rid of too.
Some guys use nail polish.

That XD looks very good with the highlights.

Did you have any issues with the Rub-n-buff coloring areas you did not want colored? I got some today at Micheal's and tried it out on a piece of scrap. The stuff colored the metal where ever it touched and did not rub off.

I'm trying to find something that has white, red and dark earth - ish in its color pallet. Please let me know if someone comes across something. I think I can use china marker/grease pencil for white and red. It’s the dark earth I’m having a problem with.

oh, olive drab could work too.

thanx.

I'd actually like to find pink. My brother and I are planning to get my mom the S&W M&P9JG with pink grip when it comes out, and I thought highlighting the marking with pink would be cool, especially the breast cancer ribbon. We were hoping to get it for her for mother's day, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Well . I got up the nerve to scribble on my XD and WOW! it looks good.
I used the white crayon . I'm curious to see how well it holds up after a few hundred rounds at the range .
Even if it falls out ,its easy enough to re-apply.

smokindragon, what happened to your images? I was hoping to see what your handiwork looked like.

They have tire-marking crayons that are paint-based.
Anyone tried one for that?
