Denton County: ~ 200 CHL's get CHL car tags, no add'l $$
All right, I'm going to use some assumptions and speculations here, so work with me.
The current license plates Texas issues have a 3/4 format of 3 letters, followed by 4 numbers.
Although someone on here claims that the state has given out all the series beginning with "A", I don't believe
that is correct. I have never seen a 3/4 series license plate which begins with "A". Even in Austin.
When the 3/4 "Texas Classic" license plates started to be issued, they began with the "B" series,
and are now giving out the "C" series.
For each 3 alphabetic series, the number portion runs from "0001" through "9999", so there are 10,000 minus 1
plates for each unique alphabetic portion.
I am making an assumption that a county will receive all 9999 plates for a certain alpha series.
Well, Denton County seems to have been assigned the "CHL" series. I see them on many vehicles here.
If we can assume that 2% of Texans have their CHL's: 2% of 9999 = 199.98.
So, for no additional charge over the usual cost of tags, Denton County should have 200 CHL people
who have tags starting with "CHL". Lucky dogs. :-)
Anyone care to question my methodology? Bring it. :-)

Glad I don't live in Denton county, I don't want everyone knowing I have a CHL.

I guess Palo Pinto County got "CCL".

A friend of mine in Corpus just received a "CHL" plate. It was totally by happen stance. She thought it was neat that it has the initials of all of her siblings.

Nobody who doesn't have a CHL knows what those letters stand for (other than cops and some DPS employees).
This reminds me, back in maybe the 1980s, the state of Iowa issued license plates in the same methodical way, until they got to GAY____. Then the stuff hit the fan.
At that time, the word gay was a code word, not generally known to mean what it means nowadays; but a lot of people found that strangers were approaching them in an overly friendly way.

Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.

Nobody cared about the FAG 1234 plates but the GAY 1234 plates caused problems?seamusTX wrote:This reminds me, back in maybe the 1980s, the state of Iowa issued license plates in the same methodical way, until they got to GAY____. Then the stuff hit the fan.

They pulled out the three-letter series that obviously were bad words, like a double-s. I don't know about that one. But at the time gay was not widely known for what it means now—especially in Iowa.Hola Gato wrote:Nobody cared about the FAG 1234 plates but the GAY 1234 plates caused problems?

I saw one of these plates a few days ago and thought, "Whew, glad I didn't get one of those."

To support your claim, I found this in the parking lot of Old West Cafe (delicious food!) at the corner of 77/Teasely:
Then shortly after that, I saw another one on DNT, near Warren/Gaylord. But I was driving & couldn't get a photo.

My neighbors plate says "GF36DD". Not personalized, either.
