Humorous Home "Intruder" Incident

Post by Rrash »

Saturday afternoon, my parents asked me to stop by their house and run a quick errand for them while they were out for the evening. I live in the DFW area, so my goal was to stop in and get out quick, beating the impending weather. I walked in their house, grabbed what they needed, and as I was about to head out, heard a bump upstairs in their bedroom. I immediately began to inspect their doors and windows to see if there was anything that looked suspicious. Everything looked good, and as I went to check the garage, I heard the bump again, but this time, it was in a different place in their bedroom. I then heard this movement going from their upstairs bedroom, to the hallway, then to the top of the staircase.

By this time, I had drawn and indexed my weapon. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs, and took cover behind the garage doorframe. My adrenaline was pumping, as I heard these foot steps getting faster and faster as they came closer towards me. Suddenly, from around the corner, came a new puppy. Its amazing how quickly my front sight locked in on his movement, but my finger remained indexed the whole time - I guess its muscle memory? Anyway, I'm glad it was something as silly as this, although the situation, as it happened, scared me enough to draw and quickly take cover.

Later, I congratulated my parents on their new pet, but withheld the rest of the story. I'm very relieved that there wasn't an accident.

They left a puppy loose in the house? Are they looking to get some new furniture?
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.
