Thank you for the replies. I seemed to remember that from the Texas government class I took at college, but good to get the confirmation.

I thought everyone know 5.6" blades are dangerous and 5.5" blades are safe.

The NRA ILA email I got said that restrictions will remain in place for knives over 5.5 inches?

I can open carry a rifle or handgun in public but my KA-Bar is still too dangerous?

The governor is expected to sign this bill I understand. If that happens you simply can not carry a "location restricted" knife in certain locations. Location restricted knives will be what is currently an illegal knife
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

(6) "Location-restricted [Illegal] knife" means a[:
[(A)] knife with a blade over five and one-half
inches[;
[(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab
another by being thrown;
[(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk,
stiletto, and poniard;
[(D) bowie knife;
[(E) sword; or
[(F) spear].

Everything highlighted in red will no longer apply after September 1st. So over 5.5 inches is illegal in some places, but all other knives otherwise under 5.5 are legal to carry even in a 51% location. :woohoo .

I wonder if this means that the Galveston Deputies have no right to disarm me of my folding pocket knife at the metal scanners at the courthouse.

Thanks!

Anyone have a link for what locations are off limits for 5.6" knives?

I imagine you all know this, and it may already have been mentioned:

This will go into effect September 1st. Until then, current laws apply.

I know it probably doesn't need saying, but I wanted to err on the side of caution.
I prefer dangerous freedom to safety in chains.

Let's go Brandon.
