Marine La Pen My Favorite French Candidate!
If she gets elected, (I hope) do you think some of the crazy leftists can be stopped from further French ruination?
Or, is it too late?

Re: Marine La Pen My Favorite French Candidate!
Well, with the French gov't having sent duplicate ballots to 500,000 French citizens - mostly liberal expatriates, Le Pen has a significant chance of getting beaten. France has approximately 47 million voters, so a half million duplicate votes could swing the election.
Here's an article about how the French vote is likely to break out: https://www.thelocal.fr/20170422/french ... ed-to-know
Of course, now we know that it is down to Le Pen and Macron: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ction.html

I wish I could vote, Le Pen would be my choice. If we only had someone on this forum who could....
Re: Marine La Pen My Favorite French Candidate!
I'm surprised so few Americans seem interested in this election.
France, denigrated by some here, is a significant and yes, wonderful country.
How do I know?
I spent time there.
No longer, as I'm too entrenched and old, but I'dve loved to have lived there. Julia Child and her husband Paul Cushing Child were inspirational...
I hope like crazy, if corruption doesn't play a significant role (as I suspect it will) she'll be elected.
With her in power, perhaps, some of the terrorist immigration can be addressed, slowed and fought against, or if not, France along with the other reality refuse-niks can keep Europe being slaughtered while they wring their hands...doing nothing to resist.

I HAVE lived there, in the 16th Arrondissement in Paris. I went to a French public school for a year in Paris when I was a young boy. My mother is French. I was born in French territory (Morocco, which was a French protectorate at the time), and I have dual citizenship. Although I have no memory of this, my parents told me that French was my first spoken language, which I still speak today.Abraham wrote:I'm surprised so few Americans seem interested in this election.

France's simultaneous greatest strength and its greatest weakness is its "frenchyness". It's a beautiful country. Actually, parts of it are geographically and climatologically a lot like central to north-central Texas. They do know how to live well. The people of the countryside are often pleasant, generous, a little curious about foreigners and somewhat inclined openly stare in a way we would find rude; but they are fundamentally decent people. On the other hand, their city folk - especially Parisians - can be the most arrogant sots you'd ever imagine. In fact, in an odd twist, their arrogance and confidence in their belief that Paris is the center of the universe tends to make them actually extremely provincial. They don't seem to know anything about the rest of the world because they don't care about it. Therefore, they are actually ignorant.

Right now, I'm much happier about Le Pen's influence than I am Merkel's. France for Frenchmen (and women) is a far better posture than Germany for the lawless. Merkel is a Globalist and I hope that all Globalists can be removed from power. I was hoping that German people would take a cue from the French and for at least power sharing in Germany as a result of a Le Pen victory. It could still happen in the run off.
I'd echo TAM's comments on the French, though my only interaction with them was working in several parts of French on and off for several years. I spent a lot of time in Orleans and the Loire valley and, in spite of my very limited and ill spoken French, was treated very kindly. I also spent time in the La Defense section of Paris and cannot not say that I was treated badly there either. But they were just not a cordial and accommodating the those in Orleans that I interacted with. I wonder if the situation there isn't the same - the country people are do not support the French Liberal politicians. I was never good enough in French to discuss politics with anyone. Translating political words isn't the same as translating every day speech, at least for me. I was in Italy for quite a while and didn't do any better with politics in Italian.

Parisiens are the New Yorkers of Europe.
Tyranny is identified by what is legal for government employees but illegal for the citizenry.

Will "the Pen" be mightier than the sword for France? And if so, will we be seeing "FR-EXIT" in the near future?

Looks like a scimitar (I don't know much about swords). If it is, that was chosen intentionally.JustSomeOldGuy wrote:Shouldn't that be an epee? (yeah, I know, an epee is harder to print a message on.....)

Re: Marine La Pen My Favorite French Candidate!
I did some quick reading up on Le Pen, and it's amazing how far to the left she has had to take the National Front party just to be considered mainstream enough in order to be a realistic alternative to the status quo in France. After reading, I can't even believe that the US media and even Fox News still refers to her an the "Far Right" candidate. She is running on a platform of government ownership over health care, education, energy, she supports abortion and opposes the death penalty. She opposes the EU and open borders and wants to get tough on radical Islamic terrorism, other than that is she really anything more than just another liberal, socialist politician?
It seems obvious to us that France needs a law and order candidate who is tough on radical Islamic terrorism. It will be interesting to see what happens over there in a couple of weeks. I understand how some Americans just want to be able to travel to France and feel safe. But other than that, even if she wins and becomes good friends with Trump, I don't see how it really impacts the USA at all other than helping with the war on Terror.

To the MSM (AKA the DNC Marketing Dept.), anyone, foreign or domestic, who advocates for strengthened immigration control is by definition of the "far right", and may be a closet nazi.allisji wrote:I did some quick reading up on Le Pen, and it's amazing how far to the left she has had to take the National Front party just to be considered mainstream enough in order to be a realistic alternative to the status quo in France. The flip side of that characterization of Le Pen is that old guard French "conservatives" were all too willing to cooperate with the 3rd Reich's "final solution" in the 1940s, and some of them are not much better than that today. France was already a deeply socialist country before the 20th century wars. Samuel Clemens made note in his book "Innocents Abroad" - first published in 1869 - that if a French train ever ran late, someone had to go to jail for it. When one looks at the history of Mussolini's rise (another prominent socialist, along with his buddy Adolph Hitler), one of the things he came to power on was guaranteeing that the trains would run on time.
It may be true that Le Pen had to take her party left to get nominated, but it is equally true that France has had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the right to begin to put immigration reform ahead of a whole panoply of France's myriad of socialist bureaucracies. My hope for her is that she is simply being pragmatic, conceding what she knows she can't win, and fighting hard for what she thinks she can win. ....and might address the rest of it later.
One thing about her abortion stance...... France's citizens decided long ago for themselves - BY VOTING ON IT - whether or not abortion on demand ought to be legal or not. They didn't have a decision forced upon them by an activist judiciary. Consequently, abortion is not nearly the political hot potato there that it is here in the U.S. I hate the practice myself, and think it is demonic, but what do I know.......
