Video of destruction in Rockport

#1

Post by The Annoyed Man »

Someone on Facebook who is FB friends with one of my FB friends posted this video today. I asked his permission to post it here. The damage is extensive. I also found the usual incongruities - like a flimsy cedar fence, still standing next to a snapped off telephone pole......

While so much attention is on Houston, most forgot that places like Rockport, Port Aransas, and Fulton took the full brunt of the Hurricane when it hit. Most of those places are not accessible but by just a few roads, and Port A is very isolated. Hopefully, most people got out in time, but there won't be much to come back to. This storm is going to go down as one of the most devastating in history, and it's not done yet.

Edit to add: I have never been prouder to be from this great State, watching all of the volunteers, risking their own safety, to save others.

:iagree: Thank God for those willing to take a risk to help someone.

Thanks for sharing the video. There is a lesson there - sometimes when you are flexible you are less likely to break under pressure.

I have a good friend who has a place in Rockport. His house was spared any major damage, but the boat storage where he kept his boat was a total loss. He actually saw his boat in a photo of the facility. He sent me a video of a flyover. The destruction is massive but as TAM said in his post it can be random to the extreme. There will be a house leveled to the pilings between two that show little damage. If I can figure out how to post it I will.

Most of the coverage, centered first on Corpus Christi, and then on Houston. From what little I have seen, these smaller towns, were almost a total loss, and are still without power, water, etc.

I hope that area gets the attention and help it deserves. Same thing happened during Katrina. NO was the focus. Mississippi and Alabama were filler material. Entire cities wiped out in Mississippi. Having had a house on Bolivar before Ike, I paid particular attention to the coverage before and after the storm. Bolivar was mostly wiped out and relative to the other coverage was almost an afterthought. There are 16 people officially unaccounted for but unofficially twice that number may be missing. Wiki gives Bolivar one small paragraph. The randomness of coverage is almost like some of the damage. semi-rant over- now back to the OP.

Samaritan's Purse is a wonderful organization. The folks come to these disastors and work their butts off. Every dollar they get is multiplied by at least 10 fold in the work that they do. They helped us out in our hour of need during Ike.
