Benchmade Auto OTF knife

#1

Post by parabelum »

I’ve never owned one, but I have wanted to get it for a long time. Been eyeballing it for quite some time. Do any of you have the 3320 Pagan Spear Point model, and if so, how do you like it? Is the action smooth? How does the overall finish, sharpness of blade etc. hold up?
If you don’t have the one I’m looking at, what’s your recommendation?

Thanks SRO1911. Which one do you prefer? I plan on making a trip to HOB here in Fort Worth, then once I see them exactly side by side, hopefully it may make the decision easier.

Problem is, like with guns, it turns into slight addiction...

ANYthing Benchmade is an addiction! I have two, and am scheming for a third. LOL

Well...went today and had the chance to hold several versions, and...in my state of “cant decide”, I ended up walking away with pagan and infidel. :cheers2:
That was my gun money for the next few months, but as I’m well stocked up with guns now, I though I’d grab couple of nice knives.

The dilemma I had was, with infidel I liked the more aggressive grip, it just feels darn good in my hand. Pagan on the other hand is just smooth, it’s like butter, incredibly slick all the way around, but still has a very positive grip. I liked the matte finish on it too. Man, it is just a fine tool.

Then I went and held infidel and I was just sold on the aggressive grip it has, plus the rugged look.

Both have action smooth as butter, minimal wiggle but just incredibly nice action.

So, $800 later, I walked out with both.

TAM,

For some time now, I thought OTF’s were just useless novelty knives, but, the more I looked at pagan, infidel and microtech’s, the more I became interested.
No doubt, these are not your utility pieces nor your fancy box openers (although they could be), they serve one purpose in my book, self defense.

Just go to house of blades and work that double action on benchmade or microtech. Watch that blade fly in and out with authority. That sound ... yes, they are very nice.

I’ve actually handled one once. Like all Benchmades, they are nicely done; but they were a little heavy in the handle for my taste....but that’s just me. But just so I wouldn’t feel left out, I went to eBay tonight and bought a used Benchmade 570 Presidio II, First Production #514 of 1000. Looks brand new. I already have a Benchmade 940-2 for an EDC, and a Contego 183 fixed blade for a big “war knife”, but I wanted a larger folder for those times when I don’t want to try to shuck oysters with my EDC.

I do love me some Benchmade.

Oh...the Contego...810 was my entry into the knife world. Still remains my favorite, although infidel or pagan now come along in separate pocket as well. Yes, they are fine instruments.
