The technology required to do what is in the video is not available, yet. However, it will arrive and you are likely to see applications like shown in the video. As for the drone swarm idea, we have already seen it happen when IADs (Improvised Attack Drones) were used to attack a Russian military base. Does this mean we need to get rid of drones? The answer is no.

We have Drones doing many other things that are far too useful, like damage assessment after natural disasters, Search and Rescue, Radio Tower inspection, Survey work, real estate photography/videography, news and entertainment, and so much more. (Note as I type this I am checking to see if my temporary remote pilot certificate w/ sUAS rating has been issued by the FAA). Drone control arguments are usually little more than gun control arguments w/ the word gun replaced with the word drone.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Very scary video. Something like this in the wrong hands (like any government) would be extremely dangerous.

Imagine having a few of these attached to all of the facial recognition cameras that are everywhere.. See the bad guy.. BOOM.... Could even be modified to inject a knock out drug instead...

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds movie but with a bit more precision.

Question to those who are electronics literate, focused beam of microwave energy, would that no severely damage the transistors on something like that?
Government, like fire is a dangerous servant and a fearful master
If you ain't paranoid you ain't paying attention
Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war let it begin here- John Parker

That is a hacked copy of the original video which was put out by autonomousweapons.org, a group that is advocating that autonomous lethal weapons be banned.

This is the original. The last minute is their statement.

Probably, if you were alert and continuously watching for it; you'd have maybe half a second to spot, aim and fire before it killed you, not to mention a swarm of them. But still, seems like targets (e.g. enemy troops) could easily confuse it with esoteric uniforms, face paint, or even masks.

If they have the ability to detect you, the ability to detect them with tech that dropped them would likely be easier to setup (being that you are likely less worried about false positives on dropping drones from them sky then they "should" be about dropping humans).

The problem then becomes who gets to determine the "bad guys" from the "good guys". I, for one, do not trust any government (including our own) with making that determination.

The simplest countermeasure would be to stay indoors / in a vehicle. But that would severely limit your ability to effectively operate, of course.

Drones can be used for bad things. Drones can be used for good things.

Sounds a lot like another tool that is frequently discussed on this forum.

Exactly what I was thinking.

These drones aren't exactly AI. They are programmed and doing what they are told or at least operating within the parameters set by programming.
