Conundrum

#1

Post by Soccerdad1995 »

I'm hoping that this enlightened group can help me with a conundrum I am facing.

As you no doubt are fully aware, today is International Women's Day!!!!! I want to make sure that I make this day as memorable and rewarding as I possibly can for all of the women I might encounter. But here is the problem. If I see a person who appears to be a woman and I wish them Happy Woman's Day!!!!! then I risk offending that person by assuming not only that they are sis-gender but also that they identify as a woman at that precise moment in time. My much smarter liberal friends tell me that not only are there a lot of genders out there (I think the last count was 27 or so) but also that gender is fluid and can change from moment to moment. So even if a person happens to identify as a woman when I wish them a Happy Woman's Day!!!!! in the morning, by that afternoon they may have changed to identifying as a non-gender specific Poodle by the time I see them again after lunch. I guess I could just play it safe and not say anything, but then I risk offending all of the people who happen to identify as a woman at the precise moment that I cross paths with them in the hall.......

What's a simple minded, self identified hillbilly like myself supposed to do here? Well I mean other than the obvious of feeling guilty for my sis-male privilege, which is of course a given?

I believe you should wish every woman you meet with a "Happy Woman's Day" greeting so long as the dress as and give the appearance of being a woman, for those that might be "offended" they need to get a life! As for Me I aim to offended so there's that.

International Women's Day is a communist holiday.

March 8 was suggested by the 1910 International Socialist Woman's Conference to become an "International Woman's Day." After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.

I expect the greeting card industry lobby had a lot to do with it. They are a powerful force.

Personally, I recommend a scowl that is appropriate for any gender that the undetermined humanoid identifies as.

I recognize days commemorating specific people -- birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc..., but I haven't personally worried about extending that to recognition of a whole gender. Maybe I have dodged a bullet in this instance, so to speak, since the whole binary gender social construct I am familiar and comfortable with is now no longer in vogue.

I celebrate this "special" day the same as International Who Cares day. I ignore it.

Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.
