My FIL has a Remington Model 1100 s/a shotgun that he's looking to sell. Since I have first shot at it I'm trying to figure out what it's worth but apparently there are several models. I'm guessing it was purchased sometime in the late 60's early 70's from the looks of the printed documentation. How can you tell the difference between Field, Trap, etc. models?
Thanks

Re: Help with identification.
very familiar with them here, need MUCH more info or a picture.
Stock
Barrel is it dated? VR or not? Length?
What is receiver marked?
Chokes or not?
Recoil pad? Factory
Is it still in stock condition?
What chamber?

In order of above... Sorry, I'm an idiot when it comes to shotguns and old firearms in general.Lena wrote:very familiar with them here, need MUCH more info or a picture.

What more info do you need about the stock? I don't have it in front of me but it's nothing out of the ordinary wood stock that appears to be mahogany.
Picture below for barrel markings, hopefully readable.
What's "VR"?
Length 28"
No choke.
I believe it had a recoil pad. I looked briefly and didn't see how it attached since there were no screws visible.
Stock condition and well used. Not beat up but what you would expect it to look like after dozens of dove hunts.
By "what chamber?" do you mean 2 3/4"?

Re: Help with identification.
VR= vent rib barrel
28" probably hunting gun, trap models then usually were full choke and 30"
skeet then usually 26" marked skeet
most trap models came with monte carlo stock
trap and skeet guns came with recoil pads normally
your pic is not too good, it from that time frame and a VR barrel they were dated under the rib on the bottom of the rib 1-2 posts from the chamber
if well used plain jane 1100 they are seen from $150-75 up depending on shape, $250-275 will buy a real near new used one plain barrel hunting shotgun, not much of a demand for them now especially plain barrel, we had one in out shop one time for over a year and could not sell it, so shortened the barrel to 20" new bead and it was gone.
What would I expect it to look like well mine were new in 1965 per date and when dad got it for me and just some bluing wear from handling is all, my M12 trap gun is a 1921 T grade my uncle, father and myself shot so much the action bar worn until it broke, no telling how many 1000's of shells shot in it and still looks 95% just handling wear on grip area.
Its all how they are taken care of.

Re: Help with identification.
Next time I visit I'll get more pictures. The ones I have now aren't any better than the snippet I posted earlier.
Thanks for the info.
