Let's hope that innocent victim of unjust gun laws gets lots of suppport. The time is long overdue to make CHL as universal as DL.
God bless Texas, concealed carry, and the Second Ammednment!

She's screwed. I read the first sentence with the word waltz and I knew she was in for unfair treatment. Have no desire to return to that scourge either. I left Philly many years ago. My Texas blood transfusion is almost complete. You will have to kill me to get rid of this Yankee.

That poor woman. RN, 4th-year med student, 1st-class citizen.
I hope the NRA goes all-in to get her off
Hard to believe you could get a CHL without being aware about NYC's anti-gun laws.

This is just another case of zero tolerance that isn't. It would be interesting to know if NY follows NJ in fully and with a vengeance prosecuting otherwise law abiding citizens on gun law violations and allowing hoodlums with long rap sheets off with a slap on the wrists for having guns. The purported reason for the gun laws is to keep them out of the hands of criminals. The administration of the laws is the exact opposite.
That said, there is also a heavy bias against citizens from Southern States in NY. I suspect that any infraction of any NY by a TN citizen would receive maximum prosecution. I see it as no different than the zero tolerance actions in the schools. Otherwise innocent kids with no bad intentions are suspended and punished and the schools are still full of weapons and drugs because those that should be caught and punished are not.
I'm thankful every day that I took the first possible job out of NJ. There are many, many reasons not to live there and the gun laws are just another entry on that list. NY is almost exactly the same.

I agree that the woman was somewhat to blame for not being aware of the patchwork of gun laws, especially NYC which is "ground zero" for misguided and draconian laws. It appears to me that she was "book smart" but not that "steet smart".
It's also foolish to admit having a gun when you realize you aren't supposed to. Instead, avoid the area and secure the weapon before returning. If there is no way to avoid it, keep quiet until you are in a legal area.
Perhaps she thought that the ban only applied to the memorial and not the city and state, which goes back to my first point.

It seems like that's what happened, yeah. Pro-gunners will use this to argue for national reciprocity since "she was essentially arrested just for being in NYC", and anti-gunners will use as an argument against national reciprocity because "See?!? Out-of-state CHL holders cause trouble!"rp_photo wrote:Perhaps she thought that the ban only applied to the memorial and not the city and state, which goes back to my first point.
Know the local laws wherever you travel, people!

I had an argument with some obvious anti-Second Amendment, anti-self-defense types earlier today at another online location on this very subject. Your statement is concise and to the point. It is why I despise the NFA and GCA laws, and indeed any laws that punish people for objects and not actions. A gun can lay loaded on a table until it rusts into unuseablity if no one picks it up and pulls the trigger. I know I'm preaching to the choir on here, but it all goes back to the actions of individuals and the refusal of a certain political mentality to see that THOSE are the problem, and not the tools used.chasfm11 wrote:The purported reason for the gun laws is to keep them out of the hands of criminals. In NJ, where we lived for 3 years, the overwhelming trend was to not punish those caught with guns on the streets. Newark is rife with young people carrying guns. If everyone of them was prosecuted when detected, the jails would be overcrowded. So there is very limited prosecution. The perps are very often plea bargained off. But a suburbanite caught with a gun gets the full force of the law.Heartland Patriot wrote:SNIP

What is missing here is the media who is looking at the statistics and calling "foul" on the NFA and GCA arguments. But then that is the problem with just about any part of our government at local, State and Federal level. The Politicians get elected under the banner of "taking guns off the streets" but are never held accountable for whether they are actually doing it or not. You and I as citizens are not going to fill that void.

Bless her pea pickin' heart, she should have known better. Now that we've got that out of the way, have I told y'all lately that I shall never voluntarily set foot in NYC again?

This is really an amazing story, as the New York Legislator's are realizing that if they put this women in prison, their house of cards may come down.

Her home state should be burning down the telephones in Albany. Her Congressman and Senators should be in an uproar and her local police and government should be involved. An innocent law abiding citizen being treated like illegal aliens and terrorists that have broken the law should be. But this lady is an ATM and they are going to bleed her dry with lawyers and bonds. Sad this happens in America.

That's the only explanation I can see for them wanting to give her a pass. Will be very interesting to watch.philip964 wrote:This is really an amazing story, as the New York Legislator's are realizing that if they put this women in prison, their house of cards may come down.
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

I feel bad for her not checking the laws ahead of time. I hope that this is the final time a good citizen is punished for this while criminals laugh all the way to the bank they are getting ready to rob...AT GUNPOINT!

I hope she gets off without a blemish too .... but.... your bulb has to be pretty dim to NOT know NYC and guns do not mix.
2A comes BEFORE States Rights. If I was a US Senator I'd be out front calling for the Constitution to be upheld here. I feel for this woman. But the mistakes are on her shoulders. Now she's a test case.
Where do I contribute?
