I know my CHL/LTC is no good in DC, but can I at least have it in my car or hotel room when traveling? I want to be able to defend myself but not risk a felony. Where can I find rules specific to DC?

quick google search says no way

http://gun.laws.com/state-gun-laws/dist ... a-gun-laws

This does not apply to handguns, because the possession of handguns, unless registered, is illegal in D.C. Handguns in D.C. all require that they be registered before February 5, 1977. No handgun registration was available after that date. Therefore, given the nature of the statute, it is illegal to possess or transport any handgun that was not registered before the specified date. As a result, all Non-residents to the District of Columbia are prohibited from possessing or carrying a handgun.

My advice would be to bypass D.C. if you wish to carry, legally.

Of course, you can always be another test case if you wish. :rules:

This is why we need national reciprocity!
Government, like fire is a dangerous servant and a fearful master
If you ain't paranoid you ain't paying attention
Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war let it begin here- John Parker

Does the Beltway actually bypass the City Limits?

I-495 does not enter the district, but Maryland has its own problems. When visiting the area, the best strategy is to overnight on the VA side. Take the metro into the city. Stay in the touristy or business areas and get back to VA before dark.

D.C. is a very dangerous city.

No gun?

No go!
