Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication

So first of all my applogies if this is in the wrong section, anyways here goes.
So in 2006 i was charged with a misdemeanor assault and battery of my ex-wife in Virginia. I pled guilty as per my lawyers advice and got a deferred adjudication and in 2009 the case was dismissed. My understanding is that since it wasnt a "conviction" that i should be eligible for gun ownership. So I went to Academy sports on Thursday filled out the paperwork and it came back from NICS as delayed. So my question is do yall think this will get denied?
