Yeah SB 354 is on ROB and Intent calendars
SB 5 is on the ROB calendar but not the intent calendar

Guess she's willing to wait her turn until the more important 354 gets passed, then her bill won't need the amendment  .... except hers might not get reached in time maybe .... we'll see. ;-)

Could Zaffirini have pulled SB5 because Lucio or someone else decided be vote #21 and finally bring 354 to a vote, instead of tying it into SB5?

I'm just speculating all scenarios. And I'm a hopeless optimist.

Go down further on the ntent calendar. It's like the 75th item on it. Way down on the list.

Maybe if Zaffirini goes up to Wentworth, and volunteers to BE vote # 21, ... it wouldn't need to be Amendment # 7 on SB 5 ...
Perhaps I'll call her and suggest that strategy to her so she can get rid of Amendment 7 off of "her" bill  "rlol"

One thing on the calendars I still don't understand is the LC
"(LC) RECOMMENDED FOR LOCAL CALENDAR"
looks like an LC goes before one without an LC even if it's farther down the list?
I need to research that if I get time some day.

I just called Zaffrini's office :

512-463-0121

Me: Hello I have an idea how Senator Zaffrini can get that Amendment 7 off of the SB 5 we need so much

Female Staff member: OH Good, hold on I'll Transfer you

Male voice : Hello, Higher Education Committee

Me: (trying not to laugh) I have an idea how Senator Zaffrini can get that Amendment 7 off of the SB 5 we need so much

Male voice: Ok what ? !!!

Me: If She will go to Wentworth and tell him she'll be the 21st vote on SB 354 to suspend the rules, then it wouldn't be needed as an Amendment to SB 5 and whether SB 354 passes or not is on him, but we need SB 5

Male voice : OK, I'll write that down and we'll talk about it.

Hang up ...
I'm thinking ...
yeah, is it freezing "down below" yet?

Senator to keep fighting guns on campus bill

Sen. Judith Zaffirini of Laredo said Friday she'll first try to stop the guns amendment from getting on her bill that would give universities flexibility to deal with budget cuts.

If that doesn't work, the Democrat will let her bill die without a vote. The showdown could come next week.

True
House is even more boring today
House is on Bill: SB 1420
Actually they are on Amendment 67/ 68, Amending an Amendment ....
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLook ... ill=SB1420" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Actually, it's so boring it's funny.

Amendment fails (after hours of debating)
Chair recognizes ....Representative XX what did you wish to address?
Representative xx "ummm nevermind" ...
(laughter all over the House)
Chair: Amendment is withdrawn; we're on page 188, now the clerk will read the next Amendment ...
Amendment 69 withdrawn
Ok, reading Amendment 70 ...
House Now discussing Amendment 70 to SB 1420
Amendment 70 withdrawn by the Author of the Amendment admitting it was not germane
Now explaining Amendment 71
Now Pages 194 ... clerk read the Amendment to the Amendment.... which is "Amendment 72"

2 hours since i posted this ...

Now House is on Amendment 90 .... actually on an "Amendment TO Amendment 90" ....Amendment #96 to Amendment 90 to SB 1420
now on Amendment #97 to Amendment 90 to SB 1420

House still boring ...
Each highway in Texas has a separate Amendment to each Amendment or something ..

Senate in recess/caucus to reconvene at 4 pm (which means at 4:30 or so)
On the floor at recess is an Amendment to a budget bill
The Amendment itself is a "complete bill" in Finance committee which would have been reported favorably, and the Chair of committee and the author of bill on the floor want it attached as an amendment... Shapiro doesn't, but wants the Amendment as a separate bill after out of committee

Senate is similarly stuck making amendments then withdrawing them on Bill: SB 1811

Hopefully some thinkin' and talkin' occurred. Kinda looks like it, but I guess we'll see soon what's happening if a deal was cut or what

I suggested that if she became the 21st vote on SB 354, perhaps Amendment 7 to SB 5 might go away.
And I've pointed out that it's less risky and cheaper for schools to pass Amendment7/SB 354 because the IMMUNITY paragraphs make for cheaper insurance rates for schools than risking a HOUSE bill passing which contains NO Immunity clauses.
If she really is interested in saving schools money during budget cuts, she'll help on SB 354/Amendment 7 rather than risk the other bills passing.

There is word of a deal that might give new life to bringing concealed handguns into college, univ buildings. We'll see how/if this goes http://twitter.com/#!/search/%20MartinBartlett" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
