I joined other state's forums which are similar to this, and started posting about campus carry,

I got a surprise response at CalGuns
We already have it. See our many threads on the topic.

California has campus carry?
That seems sooo backwards in my brain that they would as restrictive as they are, yet we don't

There is an explicit exemption in 629.9 for CCW holders.
That is very common in schools, colleges and universities for students and staff. If I had a valid CCW that didn't restrict me from carrying on campus... I'd be OK (as a student or staff) from the criminal side of things. However, I'd still be exposed to disciplinary action by the school for violating school policy. That could lead to expulsion or termination of employment.

There are two reasons that California has campus carry.

1. It is next to impossible to get a license depending on the county you're in so I just doesn't really come up

2. The issuing department can place its own restrictions on where and when you can carry such as only during work or no schools

Check out Calccw and you will find people who have a permit with a no school restriction on it.

Keep in mind that Students for Concealed Carry only considers a state to have campus carry if public colleges cannot restrict it through administrative policy. There are several states where campus carry is not prohibited by state law but is prohibited by school policy. That's particularly common among may-issue states like California.
