Anybody know how the 2nd reading roll call vote went? It's not on the bill history (link above) page yet.

EDIT: The roll call vote that I originally thought was the 2nd reading vote was actually today's vote to suspend the rules. Today was the 2nd reading.

Good news: a roll call vote just shot down amendment number 1, which I gathered was about letting regents limit carry in dorms (I came in late).

Now floor amendment 2 is coming up. It's more about dorms. Letting students or parents request that they get a floor or a wing or a dorm that doesn't allow carry.

They're withdrawing #2 to amend it to say "room or suite" (I think -- can't devote ALL my attention to this right now).

The second reading roll call vote was 21 to 9. We squeaked by. There is no way of knowing yet how each Senator voted.

Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antone) is the author of both amendments offered so far.

Bill author Jeff Wentworth (R-San Antone) is against both of the amendments.

Amendment 3 is expected to be the amended amendment 2.

Woo-hoo -- more kids to clap for! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

As a bad-guy I certainly would want to know which dorm or wing is a "gun-free" zone.

Bah, sorry. Just venting.

Amendment 3 is up -- "room or suite."

Sen. Van de Putte understands that the university would not know if a student has a CHL, but seems to think that one roommate would be able to figure out if another roommate has one. Uh -- what?

Sen. Dan Patrick is discussing that now.

Amendment 3 failed in a roll call vote 19-11 (I think -- also a conversation going on by my desk).

Sen. Lucio has amendment 4 (allows a school to "opt out" of carry if a study by the THECB shows "gun violence" goes up). Wentworth is asking him questions now.

I wish that senators had to be articulate in order to be allowed to speak.

Amendment 4 has been tabled in a roll call vote 18-12.

(For the record, amendments 1 & 3 were both technically "tabled.")

Floor amendment 5 would let colleges & universities prohibit carry on any premises where alcohol is sold or served for on-premises consumption, hospitals and meetings of the governing board. Whitworth has moved to table.

EDIT: tabled 18-12

#6: make it clear there's no exception for bar, polling place or governing board meeting.

A lot of amendments trying to gut this and so far the bill has a pretty tough stomach. Opponents are going to try to amend this to death, but hopefully it will be able to survive.
