SENATE BILL S. 2433 THE GLOBAL POVERTY ACT.............Would Put US Under UN Mandate

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-s2433/text

According to David Bossie, President of the group 'Citizens United for American Sovereignty', based out of Merrifield Virginia , website: http://www.citizensunited.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The above- mentioned Senate Bill (S. 2433) is a piece of legislation in the works that all Americans need to know about and know now!

This bill, sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama, with the backing of Joe Biden on the Foreign Relations Committee, and democrats in Congress, is a massive giveaway of American wealth around the world, and a betrayal of the public trust, because, if passed, this bill would give over many aspects of our sovereignty to the United Nations.

The noble sounding name of this bill, 'The Global Poverty Act' is actually a Global Tax, payable to the United Nations, that will be required of all American taxpayers. If passed in the Senate, the House has already passed it, this bill would require the U.S. to increase our foreign aid by $65 BILLION per year, or $845 BILLION over the next 13 years! That's on top of the billions of dollars in foreign aid we already pay out!

In addition to the economic burdens this potential law would place on our precarious economy, the bill, if passed in the Senate, would also endanger our constitutionally protected rights and freedoms by obligating us to meet certain United Nations mandates.

According to Senator Obama, we should establish these United Nations' goals as benchmarks for U.S. spending.
What are they?

The creation of a U.N. International Criminal Court having the power to try and convict American citizens and soldiers without any protection from the U.S. Constitution.

A standing United Nations Army forcing U.S. soldiers to serve under U.N. command.

A Gun Ban on all small arms and light weapons --which would repeal our Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The ratification of the ' Kyoto ' global warming treaty and numerous other anti-American measures.

Recently, the Senate Subcommittee on Foreign Relations (where Sen. Joe Biden sits) approved this plan by a voice vote without any discussion! Why all the secrecy? :nono:

I don't like the bill. That said, unless I'm missing something, I don't see anything about gun bans, UN criminal courts trying U.S. citizens and troops without constitutional protection (unconstitutional by the way), or any of the other "parade of horribles" listed in the article.

Thanks Charles. Felt my blood pressure starting to spike, then I read your rational response and was able to calm down.

The question regarding this bill is its scope - how narrow or wide will that scope be.

SB 2433 would require the President “to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day.”

Would this bill narrowly commit the U.S. to the Millennium Development Goal of merely reducing the poverty of the world's populace, or will it commit the U.S. to the achievement of the entire UN Millennium Development Goal?

The term “Millennium Development Goals” is defined as the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000). http://www.un.org/millennium/declaration/ares552e.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning “small arms and light weapons” and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

To achieve these goals, the "rich" nations are encouraged to turn over to the UN 0.7% of their GDP. Note that the U.S. currently spends approximately 0.3% of its GDP on foreign aid.

The Millennium Declaration also affirms the U.N. as “the indispensable common house of the entire human family, through which we will seek to realize our universal aspirations for peace, cooperation and development.”

I am all for this lofty goal as long as it does not infringe on my country and its constitution.

Sorry Charles, Seriously, if you do not feel this is well documented enough, feel free to remove the post. It caused my stomach to get upset last night, too. I felt the articles reinforced the guys comments enough to post.

I do not have a license to steal, nor am I qualified to give advice. I presented the bill information (with links) based on the blog warnings as a heads up of coming (implied) gun legislation.

Mrs. RiverRat is trained in the legal arts, and had researched it last night. I should wait and get her to document the trail on the references and implied consequences of the bill based on other US signed UN agreements.

here's a start;

Deadline date for implimentation;
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-s2433/text
S.2433...Sec. 2 Findings
(2) At the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000, the United States joined more than 180 other countries in committing to work toward goals to improve life for the world's poorest people by 2015.
(3) The year 2007 marks the mid-point to the Millennium Development Goals deadline of 2015..........

SEC. 3. DECLARATION OF POLICY.
It is the policy of the United States to .....blah blah.... and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal ....... blah blah.......... between 1990 and 2015.......
I thought I found a link saying small arms abolished (UN member nations) by 2011 last night. Didn't find it this afternoon.

Here is one of the disarmament parts;
http://www2.ohchr.org/english/law/millennium.htm

Article 9 UN Millennium Development Goals;
To ensure the implementation, by States Parties, of treaties in areas such as arms control and disarmament and of international humanitarian law and human rights law, and call upon all States to consider signing and ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

http://www.icc-cpi.int/about.html....too large a rabbit hole for this afternoon.

I realize I am poorly equipped to rebutt (return fire) your firing across my bow in saying you see no case for gun concerns...... amongst my limitations, I do have to work for a living. I''ll pull together more info tonight.

There were specific documents expounding on the details of each of implications of the broad points in various UN / US agreements. I work in computers and try to avoid the subjective (the basis of law).....life is easier with ones and zeros.
More later....
