Guide to testifying before the Texas Legislature

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Guide to testifying before the Texas Legislature

Post by RPB »

Each bill will have a public hearing.

John Woods was nice enough to provide a document on how to testify at these public hearings here:

A guide to testifying before the Texas Legislature

And here are tips

I'd like to thank John for that, and as a token of appreciation I'd like to offer a bit of my proofreading service for free.

John, if you see this, on your "about us page" I'm having trouble with the logic in one sentence you may or may not want to edit:
We are a non-profit organization (501(c)(4)) consisting mainly of students and members of university communities in Texas, dedicated to the memory of the survivors of the worst school shooting in American history.

at http://texas.gunfreeschools.org/about" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(Not making light of anything, but If a plane filled with Oklahoma residents crashes on the border of California and Nevada, where do they bury the "survivors"?)

Right now it looks like you are "dedicated to the memory of Wayne Chiang and Ken Stanton" who are alive and well, over at the Virginia Tech Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.
I don't think that's what you intended to project, so I'm pointing it out if you want to fix it.

I'd think they would be as justified in saying SCCC is dedicated to the memory of the deceased, since there was no postmortem poll taken of whether they'd rather have been able to defend themselves or not, but that's an ego issue of implying that you or the SCCC represents their desires when they are actually unknown and another topic all together..

I'm just pointing that out as a quid pro quo thanks for providing the above, if you see this and want to edit your site.

I'll delete this post if I become aware that you fixed your page.

Thanks again.

Good info on "Position cards" and written Testimony here for those who can't stay all day.

Unless you have a particularly compelling/unique story, written testimony and position cards are the way to go. It rubs the legislators the wrong way when too many people show up and say exactly the same thing.
