I Need Some Help !!
I do not have the computer savvy to copy and/or link to an article I have found.
Has to do with the Department of Homeland Security coming up with something like an AR-15, select fire (single shot/semi-auto and full auto, 20 and 30 round magazines) suitable for HOME DEFENSE.
Can be found at:
FedBizOpps.gov, then going to solicitation HSCEMS-12-R-00011.
Could someone give it a try?

If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.
Re: I Need Some Help !!
It's a solicitation for 7,000 5.56 select fire(machine gun) "Personal Defense Weapons" by the DHS.

How did you find it? I kept trying to plug that solicitation number into their search field, and it kept returning 0 results.Andrew wrote:It's a solicitation for 7,000 5.56 select fire(machine gun) "Personal Defense Weapons" by the DHS.

Re: I Need Some Help !!
Would serve them right if the manufacturers refused to submit bids to DHS or all just doubled their last quotes to the Fed's. What the devil does DHS need 7,000 full autos for any way? Are they planning on a war somewhere? The big O is flexing his muscles. This along with their ammo buys things could get nasty in a hurry.

If one was of a conspiracy type mindset, one might think that this and similar buys by the IRS are a preparation to quell a rebellion by the citizens of the republic. IF one was of such a mindset.

Re: I Need Some Help !!
I find it interesting that they call them "Personal Defense Weapons" rather than "Assault Weapons" or as properly designated "Assault Rifles"

Re: I Need Some Help !!
Open it up, go down to 'Section C', and it again mentions Personal Defense Weapon. It is NOT a machine gun as someone mentioned above. It is a 'Selective Fire' firearm. Anyone ever shot an M-1 Carbine with this same option? Nothing new in selective fire.

Isn't "selective fire" the same as "assault rifle"?StewNTexas wrote:Open it up, go down to 'Section C', and it again mentions Personal Defense Weapon. The M16 I carried in the Army was an assault rifle, the M60 I sometimes humped was a machine gun. The "personal defense weapons" they are talking about seem like assault rifles. The AR-15 "milita rifle" they want to ban is none of the above, just a semi-automatic rifle based on an assault rifle design.

Re: I Need Some Help !!
Selective Fire is by definition a machine gun. M-1 carbines were all semi-auto, not selective fire. And while I hate using wiki this page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_carbine" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , is okay.StewNTexas wrote:Open it up, go down to 'Section C', and it again mentions Personal Defense Weapon. Re: I Need Some Help !!
No, not the FBI, it's a DHS euphemism to keep the heat off. I could see not a little controversy arising over arming ICE agents with auto weapons.RPB wrote:so FBI has classified Select fire/full auto as "guns suitable for Personal Defense" guns ....![]()

Andrew -
You caught me. My memory is reaching capacity, and I may need to do a core dump or a head reformat.
The M-1 carbine is semi-automatic only.
It's brother, the M-2 carbine, which looks the same, is the one with selecive fire. I carried one for a couple of years back in the early 60's when driving motor patrol around Camp David. My 'shotgun' rider actually carried a Garand. We both had 1911s too.
As an aside, it was great duty. Camp David is a navy base, they taking care of buildings and grounds. The army takes care of all communications, and the marines took care of security. Usually less than 100 people on site, and the navy cooks were the best. Best chow anywhere in the military.

It's a machine gun according to the feds if a taxpaying citizen tries to buy one.StewNTexas wrote:Open it up, go down to 'Section C', and it again mentions Personal Defense Weapon. It is NOT a machine gun as someone mentioned above.

Re: I Need Some Help !!
Sounds like a M-16 to me.
