WA: Cop faces suspension for tackling man waving ice axe

This is unbelievable. There’s a reason I put this in the political category.

Man steals ice ax at REI store, threatens employees with it when They tried to stop him. Later convicted of robbery for this.

Cops followed him down the street as he waves the ice ax at them, threatened to taser him if he didn’t drop it, gave him multiple commands to drop it, finally one cop tackles him, cops take him into custody.

That cop’s supervisor wrote him up for “failing to de-escalate the situation.”

I really don't know how that could have been handled any better without anyone getting hurt. Kudos to that officer.

Very commendable on the part of the LEOs at the scene. However, the supervisor that wrote the officer up should be frequently drug tested and any other test or evaluation that might indicate why the supervisor is so inept in making sane decisions. Of course it is Seattle.

I hear Dallas PD is looking for a few good men.

The cop did his job and was suspended.

I'm puzzled as to why anyone would remain a cop if that's the kind of treatment you can expect...

The Seattle officer obviously already knows how to bulldog; get him down here, teach him to rope as well, and he'll be unstoppable and will never have to shoot or tase anybody. :biggrinjester:

The supervisor probably thought that “de-escalate” meant to take the perp out for a cup of Seattle’s Best coffee and a donut.

That sounds like de-caffeinated. I think that line was used in Lethal Weapon 2.
