There's also the ruffled shirt and the boots or shoes with metal buckles (pewter?). And if you OC, your holster, belt, and shoes must coordinate. :tiphat:
Aren't highland types also required to carry a sheath knife? :biggrinjester:

You are correct, sir

"The use of traditional Scottish weapons as part of Highland dress is common, including the sgian dubh worn in a hosetop on the leg corresponding to the dominant hand, and the ceremonial dirk suspended from the waistbelt."

For the record, I wear a utility kilt, so I OC with a paddle holster and a K-Bar. And yes, I'm Scottish.

I'm going to have to double check when I get home, but I believe my S&W M&P Shield will fit in one of the cargo pockets of my utilikilt. I know the LCP Custom will. Otherwise, I would just open carry my Glock with it like I usually do with jeans. Hmmm, this thread made me realize I haven't worn my kilt in too long.

I always just switch over to a smaller gun and carry it in my sporran. It would be interesting to try other options.

Being a Highlander - yes.
And OC a custom Ed Brown 1911 in a custom-made leather shoulder holster? I'm pretty sure that's a requirement.......at least for highlanders. I think that lowlanders can still carry a P3AT in the thigh garter their "partners" gave them at their "celebration of union".

I'm not a kilt aficionado, but I'd think that a Crossbreed with the Utiliclip would hold well, especially if you don't have a gun belt to clip on to.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

With this kilt, you can carry any way you want, and still be extremely "Tacticool"

My maternal Grandfather was a Sinclair, and my cousins, all attend the Scottish games all over the country. They are coming to Arlington in May. I don't get that involved with it, and I don't own a kilt but I may get one of these just to "fit in" . My main attraction to my Scottish heritage, is an affinity for single malt scotch.

I first read about Kilt Carry in:
Robert Heinlein's Methuselah's Children
The character's name is Lazarus Long
Published 1941

I think it was a blaster not a hand gun but it's been a while...

I read the book in the mid 1960's.

Any kilt wearers around Houston, you should check out the Houston Highland Games Association. We will meet for a Tartan Day get together at Lucky's Pub downtown near the soccer stadium on April 8 beginning at noon. Come kilted!
Bagpipes WILL be present!

It's the sequel to "Time Enough for Love", and I read them both in the 70s.
