Nevada Rancher Standoff
I'm sure you have noticed the potential disaster near Las Vegas between a rancher and the federal government.
Supposedly this is because of the desert tortuse who the federal government is trying to protect on State land.
Apparently the rancher's family has been there since 1877.
The worry of course is that with armed militias comming from all over the country and the federal officers armed this will become a Ruby Ridge or Waco.
To me the president needs to call for a cooling off period.
One new thing has immerged. Harry Reid and his son and a Chinese Solar Power Company.
Apparently the important reason to get this man's cattle off state land is not the tortuse but money.
I'll check it out and see if anything is behind it.

Re: Nevada Rancher Standoff
This thing stinks to high heaven. It smells like coercion and political $$. At minimum it is a unbelievable overreaction by the feds to a relatively minor problem. They are saying he owes a million in grazing fees....to that I say "so what?" Al Sharpton owes 2 million in taxes so leave him alone.

Re: Nevada Rancher Standoff
The rancher in question has not paid grazing fees on the land since 1993. He has supposedly overgrazed it in an effort to line his pockets with more money made from cattle sales also. If in fact this is the actual facts of the matter he has stolen from the citizens of this country for 21 years. Seems to me he might make a pretty fair politician with his experience.
I don't necessarily agree that taking his cattle for remuneration towards 21 years of grazing fees is the right thing to do, but something had to happen. For 21 years he slipped through the cracks and now it is time to pay up and he doesn't like it.
My hope is that cooler heads will prevail in this matter and no one comes to harm.

If that is the case there are non violent ways to collect. Put a lien on his ranch. Put a lien on his cattle and taxes. Thus Rambo-ing up and snipers is way way over the line.

I hope it gets resolved peacefully as well. I know this man has refused to pay the fees since 1993. Though I haven't looked into his reasoning and don't know the circumstances.Sidro wrote:The rancher in question has not paid grazing fees on the land since 1993. If you think this rancher is stealing from you then ask Harry Reid how much his mining buddies have paid to the US for the minerals the reap. ZIPPO. You see unlike oil, gas,and coal companies they pay absolutely no royalties on any mineral or metal they take from the earth. They only pay comparatively miniscule claim and maintenance fees. In 2011 it was a total of 64 million. Compare that to energy exploration and producing companies. Harry Reid is the main paid shill for the mines and has been for a long time . He has made sure no legislation ever gets through to get royalties from mining companies. This cattle ranchers unpaid fees are a grain of sand on the beach compared to what we could be getting from mining.

Re: Nevada Rancher Standoff
Here is the article about Harry Reid and a Chinese Company wanting to build a 5 billion dollar solar energy project in the desert. Some other articles tie the ranch to the area where the solar farm would be, but it was to complicated at the moment. Maybe later.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/ ... 6D20120831" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
No doubt the federal government would provide loan guarantees to the Chinese for the 5 billion.
Apparently cattle grazing around in the desert is not helpful for solar farms.
The same turtles that would be harmed by cattle grazing would be given a death sentence for solar farms. I think it is called an exemption. Solar trumps endangered species. Or the Solar farm would be allowed to mitigate. ( kill turtles here but give money to a turtle ranch somewhere else)

Far too sane and simple. Your proposal is therefore rejected.mamabearCali wrote:If that is the case there are non violent ways to collect. Put a lien on his ranch. Put a lien on his cattle and taxes. Thus Rambo-ing up and snipers is way way over the line.

Re: Nevada Rancher Standoff
if they take his ranch, my prediction is there will be an oil field or a solar field on the land within 10 years.

FAA has prohibited overflights over the ranch.
They for some reason do not want TV news choppers getting any photos of what they are doing.

This is our government at work. Unfortunately the majority mistakenly believe it's governments role to tell us what we can do. The rest of us know we tell the government what they can do. We have fallen off the precipice. It's become WE the Government! They are King.philip964 wrote:http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_4_1687.html

Uh-huh. Dnt want anyone one to see what they are doing. What type of person does this. What type of person goes along wiht this? What type of person sits on a hill pointing rifles at people over cows grazing? Over some cows......give me a break. Where are the legislative deficit budget hawks now? Talk about a waste of resources. This is govt bullying and look like it might turn into gov't homicide. Where is PETA over the calves being terrorized helicopters?

This could be the match that lights the fuse.
