Re: A little more of the NRA is being told

To my knowledge, all WSJ articles about the NRA and/or LaPierre are written by Mark Maremont. That speaks volumes. His articles are based on lies fed him by Ackerman McQueen, as noted in the pleading I attached to my prior posts. Chas. I went back and checked, and you're correct, Charles. The artic...

Re: A little more of the NRA is being told

As an NRA member, I continue to be hopeful that the full story can be told quickly. The Wall Street Journal published a story, updated 11/4/19, that suggests problems with "governance" at the NRA, including "lax controls on outside vendors". It seemed like balanced reporting to me, and the picture w...

Re: 1911 with a 10 rd magazine?

Thanks to everyone for the great feedback. I've got some more thinking to do. As I do that, here are a couple more thoughts to follow up on some of the feedback you've given me. I will look for a 5 inch barrel. My current EDC is a Sig P238 with a 3 inch barrel, and although it's a sweet shooting gun...

1911 with a 10 rd magazine?

Hi all, One of the local ranges has a pistol match from time to time. That sounds like fun to me so I checked into it. It turns out that you must have a pistol with at least a 10-round magazine to participate. My pistol has a 7 (+1) round capacity, so it doesn't meet the requirements. I'm thinking a...

Re: No place but Katy, Texas

This is sad, but it's not new, I'm afraid. I taught at the University of Minnesota just over 30 years ago and we had a similar situation there. In that case, we did not have a grade of F, but we had grades of D and N. N stood for no credit, but it didn't count against the student's GPA. As a faculty...

Re: Small victory in Illinois: FOID ruled unconstitutional

I lived in Illinois for 20 years before moving back to Texas, the FOID has been around a long time. This is another step to fully restoring the law abiding citizens of Illinois their 2A rights. My grandpa's FOID card expired in 1973, so FOID has been around in Illinois for almost 50 years. I'm real...

Re: Texas republican congressman calls for giving 16 year olds the vote.

Congressman Michael C. Burgess M.D., Republican, Texas is a prime example of what is wrong with the Republican Party. At least he doesn’t represent my part of Tarrant County. I wonder what the people who elected him think of his support for progressive socialist agenda He does represent my part of ...

Re: Electricity Providers

I've always found that powertochoose.org provides accurate information about electric rates. It's the rates themselves that are complicated. They tend to be piecewise linear in usage. In other words, fundamentally, the amount you pay per kwh depends on how many kwhs you use, and, depending on the pl...

Re: “Jr” Suffix on CHL

I am a "third". I've gotten to the point in my life where I don't use the suffix "III" any more when signing my name or filling out forms. I actually stressed about this when I applied for my CHL (now LTC) but went ahead and left the suffix off, as I had with my Texas drivers license quite a few yea...

Re: Good Summer Sausage?

It turns out we got some summer sausage from Fischer's Market in Muenster for Christmas. We've been enjoying it with some tasty smoked Muenster cheese from the same place. Very good, but well off the beaten path.

Re: Six Flags is history...

I contacted Six Flags yesterday via their web site and complained about their decision to go with only one flag and to deny their previous interest in history. Here's what I got in response: Thank you for contacting Six Flags regarding your concern. Thank you for contacting Six Flags regarding your ...

Re: ObamaCare and typical liberal hypocrisy

I stopped working full time in late 2013 (not my choice, but that's a different story), just before ObamaCare took effect. I bought a PPO policy from Humana at that time, with a high deductible but with access to my primary care doctor and two specialists I see. Every year since ObamaCare took effec...

Re: Private sale of a handgun by an Illinois resident to a Texas resident

Again, thank you for the responses. I appreciate them all. I think I'll talk to my dad and have him use Gander Mountain as the buyer. That seems to be the consensus among the experts here, and it makes sense on reading all the responses. Some of you have raised points I didn't quite understand or ha...

Re: Private sale of a handgun by an Illinois resident to a Texas resident

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I was thinking Dad should record the transfer to Gander Mountain or my local FFL. I was thinking my FFL would be the preferred approach because that's where I picked up the gun, filled out the paperwork, etc., and effectively completed the transaction, but I'm ...
