Charles is too much of a statesman to mention it, but do a bit of research about the author of that article. He carries a lot of NRA baggage around with him, much of it in the form of his father who has had, at best, a contentious relationship with the NRA.

For me, personally, the correct message should be, "vote only for the candidates you feel strongly about." It isn't like an SAT test where you want to leave no question unanswered. Research the candidates and select only those you feel will most benefit the NRA and the Second Amendment.

But "bullet voting," selecting only a single candidate, seems about as ridiculous to me as making certain you fill in all 25 (26 this year) of your available choices.

I've never had any working affiliation with the NRA, but I've been on the boards of a few nonprofits. That experience has been, Pareto's Law, 20% of the volunteers do 80% of the work. While celebrities can bring benefit just by name recognition, I sometimes think that's one failing of the NRA board's election process: some of the most valuable board members are not household names, and broad name recognition can often steer uninformed voters' choices.

There's plenty of time before the deadline, so I try to be as selective as possible. Some of the board members up for re-election I've come to know from past research and on-the-job accomplishments, some I know nothing about but their profiles in front of the ballot. So I'll typically make a short list, then start doing some research. Over the course of a few weeks, I'll get down to my selected candidates. I can't think of any year in the past decade where I've voted for more than five candidates.

One thing Jeff Knox, the article's author, is 100% correct about is that far too few NRA members eligible to vote exercise that privilege. That wouldn't surprise me in most other nonprofits, but it's always been a mystery to me in the NRA.

If you're eligible to vote and receive a ballot, please take the time to do due diligence, select the few candidates in whom you have the greatest confidence, and cast your vote.

Re: 2017 NRA Board of Directors Election

I'd forgotten you were up for re-election this year.

It'll be a good month: a new President of the United States inaugurated on Friday, and then the NRA ballot starts arriving the following week.
